Match Play, Round Three

That's a great big brrrrr from all three of us

Round three of the match play, on what started out as a pretty nippy sort of day, but then the sun came out and it ended quite gloriously - weatherwise that is.

And here, just to remind you, is one from the archives - a hazy, lazy summer day back in February.

You wait till you're freezing your butts off in June, and think back to how you moaned about the heat today.

This match play round played in good spirit, with some very competitive performances. Well done, everyone.
Yeah, there'll be some real good spirit in our game, just watch

No-one went home in a huff, which is always good.

And after three rounds, the eight players who performed best go on to the quarter finals.

From here it's a knockout competition. The pairings for the quarter finals are given after the scores below.

No-one's beating Vickie today except me

A couple of notes from the captain:

Coaching. It's a no-no during the game. Given in the best spirit, we know, but save it for after the eighteenth. Encouragement, yes. Coaching, no.
Wish someone would encourage me

And slow play. If you're using the GPS, why not take the reading while waiting for your turn to play - the flag's not going to move. Get your glove organised before you get to the tee. Play that provisional if you think there's half a chance the ball might be lost. And leave your buggy where you'll walk to the next hole.

Slow play? Not when I'm scorching them down the fairway

Coming up, the Pro-Am at Wembley. Monday August 20th. It's a fun day, talk to Gary - he has all the details.

Stephanie is collecting names for those coming to the Bastille Day celebrations at Kerry and Paul's on July 14th. Free to members, $15 for guests. Food is French specialties, and so are the wines. Let Stephanie know if you haven't already.

Get into your wardrobe and search out those berets and whatevers. Red white and blue is good, and Shelley suggests a cockade as a minimum.

What's a cockade, I hear you ask? Picture below:

I imagine Red Dot will have a healthy supply

Most of the novelties were keenly fought over, but it looks only one person got on in 2 on the ninth, judging by how close to the edge Brett was.

Bastille Day? I'm going as Edith Piaf, and this is Marcel Marceau
Next week - American Foursomes. The rules follow:

Both players play tee shots at each hole, then play a second with their partners ball. One ball is then selected and then play proceeds as in foursomes with the owner of the ball selected then playing the third shot. Handicap allowance is 50% of combined handicaps.

And remember, this is your last chance to bid for Eric's buggy - the auction closes at 6pm tomorrow.

Match Play quarter finals are on July 21. These are the pairings:

Jan Rowling (1st) v Derek Longhurst (8th)
Richard Yeo (4th) v Stephanie Jeffares (5th)
Paul Gardner (3rd) v Peter Baird (6th)
Brett Fordham (2nd) v Greg Bennett (7th).

1st Reserve:  Rob Gray
2nd Reserve:  Kerry Gardner
