LADIES DAY

Ladies Day

I seem to remember this was invented to give the girls a chance to win once in a while.

As if they needed it! If recent form is anything to go by, I think we'll need a Gentleman's Day, to give the blokes a chance.

Not a large field, but a competitive one.

And a bright blue, but breezy day.

Gary was rear-ended by Glen's remote control buggy on the first hole, resulting in what was reported over the phone as "severe whiplash". Or perhaps that's what he dished out to Glen - it was a bad line, couldn't quite make it out.

The Mug's Cup was virtually awarded  - "virtually" in that Max had left it at home, so the official NAGA ceremony will have to take place at another time.

Not the Mug's Cup - more the Turkey Trophy

Good to see Shelley and Malcolm at the "afters". I was told that Shelley was looking much improved, but I don't think that was quite what was meant.

Apparently she's looking at being back on the course after Christmas.

And we gather that Stephanie responded to the instruction to make the novelties more accessible to the ladies, by writing "Ladies Only" on the markers. Seemed to do the trick, Steph.

The Golden Hole on the Tuart jackpotted once again, leaving a good $200 in the pot, so expect a larger than usual field next time we're on the Tuart.

Paul and Kerry enjoying the Old Dart, and have been able to get go for short walks around the neighbourhood, and along the banks of the famous River Arun.

Where I fished as a nipper - ah, nostalgia..
Good to see the weather hasn't changed much.

They're missing golf, but have been sizing up the local course and have managed to secure a couple of sets of clubs. Missing us too, and would love to hear from you and see some pictures.

They've nearly completed their quarantine requirements in Clymping, and are looking forward to getting out and about, hitting the night spots and partying till the early hours. Oh, just a minute. Out of quarantine and into lockdown and curfew. Ah well, Boris will have it all sorted soon.

Missing you all

And today's winner:

Not content with winning the day (albeit on countback), Steph also took out the raffle, and the NTP on the 18th.

Must be my day

We've searched the Constitution, but apparently the founding fathers forgot to put in a provision preventing a clean sweep like this. The committee will be drafting an appropriate motion at the next AGM.

Runner-up and third...on countback!

A couple of birthdays recently. Earle celebrated his seventieth with a bit of a shindig, Bernie the twelfth (date, not age), and Frances and Glen coming up soon.

Next week, the final round of the Club Championship on the Old Course. Expect a big field!

SOS CUP, ROUND 2

The second round of the SOS Cup, and with the early start came dewy greens, which played slow, slow, quick, quick, slow. Fine if you're doing the foxtrot, but a bit of a pain if you're putting.

Of course, you could always be doing something more interesting. Like jetting to disease central, aka the UK:

We tried to stop him leaving...

Getting used to the latest European fashions

But back to the golf. Inevitably, in a two week competition it can get a bit, well, competitive. That only serves to bring out the best in our play, and Barry (aka Boris) certainly excelled himself with a birdy on not just the second, but also the eleventh.

OK, big deal you say, except that these two holes are distinguished by being index two and one on the course - a feat that doesn't appear to have been achieved within living club memory. (Guiness Book of Records suggest that Kim Jong Il managed it during the opening of the Pyongyang Golf Course in North Korea, but we discount that).

So, great golf Boris!

Generally, we expect Greg to have achieved a pretty good result on any Saturday, and today was no exception. He won the raffle!

On the day, the honours went to Stephanie, who turned in an exceptional score of 68, three points clear of Ian in second place, who was himself another point clear of Boris.

Well done all three.

So, how did we go today?

Apologies to the other ornithologists - I didn't have the cards to see all the birdies.

But it is, of course, the aggregate that matters. Gary had put in a solid marker last week, but found his putting letting him down today. Would his 75 be enough to hold off the challengers?

In the end, not quite. Beaten on countback by the surging Boris. Commiserations to our Captain, accolades to the new challenger.

Now if you've ever wondered what it looks like out of the window while you're enjoying your two weeks of quarantine, here it is, courtesy of Paul and Kerry.

Just another ten days to go isn't it guys? Maybe there'll be a bird or something?  Perhaps a robin? You never know.

Back at SOS, next week, it's Ladies Day, so expect some fun and games. We'll miss Paul's cross-dressing - anyone volunteer to take his place? It'll get in the blog!

They're all over it.

And in the meantime, if you've forgotten how to do the foxtrot:
