Spring Cup, Round 1

Aaah, the joys of Spring.
Feeling confident

Put away all that wet weather gear, this is the rest of the year.

Photo taken by my assistant. Not too bad.
What do you mean, not too bad?

Perfect golfing weather.

After all this practice, I hope to get the opportunity to chip on somewhere.

Slow play wasn't a problem.

The only way your ball is going to get wet is an ill-placed shot on the 5th.

(Why is it always the nice new ball?)

Which reminds me, Peter would like us to know that he now has ducks.

Some confusion with the cards today. It appears on newer cards, the ladies indices have been changed. Some of us had new cards, some of us had old ones. Fortunately, today was a stroke competition, so Vickie and Lynne will work it all out later.

I'm leaving it to Vickie

Golden Hole goes off! Congratulations to Stephanie.

Wonder what plans she has for the $122.

Better warn Barry, she's pretty high maintenance. The car, I mean.

So, how did we go on the other novelties?

You never know, today might be the day.

Watch the weather forecast this week. Sausage sizzle after Round 2 next week if the weather looks good.

I reckon you need a calculator

BIG REMINDER from Club Captain. Let the person doing the sheet know before 5pm Wednesday if you're not going to play, otherwise you forfeit your payment. And you should be paying one week in advance - ie this Saturday, you are paying for next Saturday. No freeloading.

Need a bit of discipline around here

Birthdays - Paul and Thomas.

Remember, if you want to see the results looking all official, they're in the West Australian every Monday - Look for "SOS Wembley", just before the "US Masters".

Thanks to Charmaine for her generous sponsorship of today's competition. Seems like she made sure she wasn't going to win her own prize.

I knitted it myself.

Apparently, after being on the green in 2 on the 5th, Charmaine managed to putt into the water. Roland claims she shouted at him to "say something!".

Vickie prepared for big fines, and a good spread on the raffle numbers.

Now, for the results:

MATCH PLAY FINAL AND AMBROSE PAIRS

Finally, the final. Eagerly anticipated, the final showdown between Greg "The Mauler" Bennett, and Peter "Terminator" Baird.

Good to see the game being played in the right spirit

Peter confessed that he'd been sticking pins in his little doll all week. Gary asked how he expected to be able to blow it up now.
Good to see him back..
,,,and good to see him back too.

Off the first tee, both went left. It didn't look good. After that, they disappeared, somewhat appropriately, into the light. We didn't see them again.

So, the rest of us dribbled around with Ambrose Pairs. A nice relaxed game, no-one seemed to get too excited about the play, or even the result. The weather was kind, the greens were not.

Finally, we made it back into the clubhouse.

Talk was of Peter's shot off the fifteenth tee, where he managed to smash his drive into the women's tee marker before watching it sail back over his head for SLUT OF THE DAY.

So, two fines:  Abusing course equipment and a SLUT.

Which reminds me, we haven't received a membership application from this young lady
Ross, rather than slink off to the ATM to cover his multiple fines, managed to persuade Shelley to underwrite his obligations. Not sure if she realised quite the extent of his misdemeanours.

A resounding victory

Not our best day on the golf course
Revv'd up and ready to go

But the big one?

Yes! Best raffle ever..
No, I mean the match play.
I'm getting a new mantlepiece for it

Greg beat Peter 2 and 1. A close match, by all accounts, with the lead changing multiple times.

I'll just get the engraver to add ditto marks

Congratulations to you both; a good fight, well fought!
