Finally, the final. Eagerly anticipated, the final showdown between Greg "The Mauler" Bennett, and Peter "Terminator" Baird.
Peter confessed that he'd been sticking pins in his little doll all week. Gary asked how he expected to be able to blow it up now.
Off the first tee, both went left. It didn't look good. After that, they disappeared, somewhat appropriately, into the light. We didn't see them again.
So, the rest of us dribbled around with Ambrose Pairs. A nice relaxed game, no-one seemed to get too excited about the play, or even the result. The weather was kind, the greens were not.
Finally, we made it back into the clubhouse.
Talk was of Peter's shot off the fifteenth tee, where he managed to smash his drive into the women's tee marker before watching it sail back over his head for SLUT OF THE DAY.
So, two fines: Abusing course equipment and a SLUT.
Ross, rather than slink off to the ATM to cover his multiple fines, managed to persuade Shelley to underwrite his obligations. Not sure if she realised quite the extent of his misdemeanours.
So, the novelties:
And the Ambrose Pairs:
But the big one?
No, I mean the match play.
Greg beat Peter 2 and 1. A close match, by all accounts, with the lead changing multiple times.
Congratulations to you both; a good fight, well fought!
Good to see the game being played in the right spirit |
