Twenty members and one guest turned up to have a 2nd shot for the SOS Cup, with a sausage sizzle to follow at Perry Lakes

The Tuart Course provided a different set of challenges to last week on the Old Course when the top players included:

With James and Lynley not contesting Round 2, only 3 frontrunnes remained as favourites! Would they prevail?

Perry Lakes Sausage Sizzle

After the game most players managed to make it to Perry Lakes where they found the early finishers had cooked up the snags and onion, set out the drinks, rolls and salad ready for consumption!

Acting President, Andrea Williams commenced the formal part of the meeting by welcoming everyone to the first sausage sizzle in quite some time. Records seem to indicate 31 May was the last sizzle, after the annual bout with the WABGA!

With the Annual Dinner coming up on Saturday, 29 November, please ensure that your payment has been made to the SOS Operaing bank account.  Also, anyone with special dietary requirements should contact Shelley Yeo before next Saturday, 8 March.  

Next Week  - eligible players will compete for the Masters Trophy, an 18 hole stroke event (lowest net score wins) to be held on the Tuart Course with a 8.12 am start.

The Masters Trophy competition is for a Perpetual Trophy and is only open to members who have won a 36 hole Cup event or the Match Play competition in any fixture year. Glen Pope won in 2024.

Non-eligible players will compete in a standard stroke game.

Anniversaries

Glen Pope provided a few kind words to Paul Cooper on the occasion of his 70th birthday celebrations being held this week, noting that Paul's athletic frame, fuelled by pre-game bacon & egg sandwiches, consistently produces great golf shots !

Congratulations to Faye Millar and Glen Pope for each scoring 70 net strokes, closely followed by Dave Williamson on 71 net strokes.

At the other end of the spectrum we have Paul Cooper on 86 strokes narrowly beated by Paul Gardner for the bag of lollies, on 87.

And the winner of the SOS CUP 2025 is Frances Longhurst with a total score of 140.

Frances is a worthy winner having the lowest score of any round, taking a 4 stroke advantage into Round 2 and, with an aggregate score of 140 wins by a 3 stroke margin.

If further accolades are needed, Frances birdied the Tuart's index 1, par 5, 4th hole thereby being awarded 2 x $5 Wembley Gift Cards.

With Derek winning the Memorial Cup a few weeks ago in grand fashion, the Longhurst's might have been taking covert lessons in the lead-up to the festive season!  Surely their mantleplace is overflowing!

Novelties

There were two Golden Holes worth $150 (Hole 3) and $37 (Hole 18), but no-one got close enough to either!
