All but 4 of the 22 booked players turned up at the Wembley Tuart Course ready for the 3rd round of the club championship but, with bolts of lightning visible in the dark clouds approaching from the south west, Club President Gerry Tessier declared that safety comes first and cancelled play !
While Gerry's decision was applauded by many, a small number of die hards decided to brave the Bureau of Meteorology's dire warnings of drenching rain, gusting winds and potential hail and lightning !
Mark Wilson decided to play! Note large beach towel over shoulder. |
Derek sought the warmth of the Pro Shop where he met a manaquin in summer attire! |
"Die Hards" on their way to the 1st tee ! |
Coops, Earle and others preparing to tee off! |
Mark Wilson reported the course was in great condition and supplied the following picture as evidence!

Seems the 18th green was fit only for wading ducks |
SOS Vice Captain Karl Wolzak reported on conditions at the Hill View course where his Pennants competition was not cancelled. Karl endured the most appalling weather and play. " Bunkers were like swimming pools, fairways and greens were saturated, the rain was unrelenting and torrential. Virtually no other players on the course. Apart from that it was pretty good!!!!"
Sooooo . . . . no results to report, no novelties contested, no raffle held!
Next Week
The 3rd qualifying round of the Match Play competition will be held on the Tuart Course, scheduled to commence at 9.40am.
