BLIND STABLEFORD PAIRS

 

We were supposed to play with our eyes closed?

No, not really, although some of our scores suggested that’s exactly how we played.

So which course are we on today?

The idea is your Stableford score is added to that of another player, but you don’t know to whose until after the round!

Some embarrassing pairings resulted, but more of that later.

We played on the Tuart.

Waiting for the blokes on the seventeenth

A strange day, warm, even hot at times, but also wet with showers, and a cool breeze to precede the showers.

We shook the moths out of our umbrellas

It wasn’t unusual to have the umbrella out twice on the same hole, once for the sun, and once for the rain.

We welcomed a couple of guests, Alex Mancini who submitted his third card, and Jos Lankester who popped in his second. If you didn’t get a chance to introduce yourself, here they are.

The novelties were ably managed by Lynley, who even managed to get her name on one of them, in spite of our efforts to fail to put out the marker for the longest drive.

On number 4, nearest the pin in 3 (phew, that long par 5) Alex got his name on the card, and there it stayed.

The Golden Hole on the 6^th remained unclaimed, and jackpots to $86.

Gim finds the figs

The Ladies’ longest drive on the 8^th went to Lynley, a monster drive straight down the middle, as is her wont.

Wayne unleashes on the fourth

Nearest in 2 on the 10^th, first to Frances, then Gerry, but Mark Wilson was having none of it and got inside both efforts.

The Men’s longest drive on the 17^th saw a great effort by Wayne, but Gardy went further.

And nearest on the 18^th, all three of the first group made the green, and it required a pace out to determine the closest, but Roland just pipped Wayne for the chocolates.

The 18^th also saw Karl awarded the Kangaroo Award - his first drive hit the path and bounced right into the putting area - his next effort also struck the path, and this time reached the children’s playground.

Gim looking after those feet

Fines and Raffle earnings are  going to the Charlie’s Angels charity again this week. Members reached deeply into their pockets, contributing well over $150 in fines.

This means over the two weeks, that SOS will be able to contribute $600. Thank you to all concerned for your generosity.

Gerry played with a full set this week. Still got a better score when he played with four clubs!

Andrea celebrated her anniversaire this week. That’s Penblwydd Hapus from all of us!

A countback to the last nine holes still saw the winners tied, so it had to go to the last three holes to determine a winning pair.

Congratulations to Roland and Birgit - a couple of very tidy rounds there, and commiserations to Wayne and Gerry, who just missed out.  

Meanwhile next week, it’s Irish Stableford, to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. We play individual Stableford in teams of 4. On holes 1-5 count just one score for your team, on holes 6-10 count the better two scores. On holes 11-15 count three scores, then on 16, 17, 18 the sum of all four scores.

You are expected to make at least some effort to wear green - there’ll be a $10 voucher for the greenest.
