Winter Cup - Round 2

An interesting day of golf with challenging conditions!  But it could have been worse as the forecast afternoon rain held off until we were all back in the clubhouse.

Vickie and TJ escort the Winter Cup Trophy from the car park to the Pro Shop prior to the match.

TJ reports that Vickie exclaimed . . "This trophy will be mine before the end of the day!"

The wind was strong and persistent as anyone attempting a downhill putt on the 9th green can attest! Just a tap, and the ball kept on rolling, rolling, rolling - propelled by the fridgid north westerly wind!

In fact, your blogger cannot recall colder conditions in over a decade of Wembley golfing!

Lynley, Frances & Lynne suitably attired for the conditions.

Shelley' s adapts her driver cover to maintain circulation in her hand !

The advantages of having a motorised buggy!

Gary & Derek with Gardi wearing a skull warmer!

Brett, Colin & Frances ready to start

Derek rugged up!

Group 2 are on the tee as Gim & Dave get ready.

President & Vice Captain - Gerry & James at the start

Gary with Earle & Roland on the 1st tee.

TJ's monicker, Chunky, was further entrenched after this massive fairway gouge early in the competition. Perhaps just dialling in his swing?

Another chunked chip!

Vickie fills up TJ's pitching hole - which apparently took
the entire contents of the sand bucket!

Lynley's drive off the 17th tee went left . . . and not very far,
and was lost in the rough close to the maintenance shed!

TJ 'treed' !

Flash back to the Winter Cup -  Round 1  where an supreme exhibition of scrambling golf by Pug Dog went unreported!  Approaching the 9th green (Tuart) Puggy found his ball some 100+ metres from the hole and snookered by two trees. The yellow flag can be seen in the distance between the trees.

Pug Dog's ball in the foreground and flag in the distantce!

The ball landed next to the stick!

How did he do it??

Meanwhile, back on the course, Vickie analyses a tough shot with her back to a tree!

How many strokes were lost from near misses?

Dave and Gim were in the last group to finish and scored the rear table.

President Gerry opens the meeting!

Gerry congratulated Dave Williamson, Don Beasley and Tony Gooch who all celebrated birthdays this week!

A reminder that next week's competition with be the 5th round of the Club Championship which will be played on the Old Course, commencing at 9.56am.

Details of the SOS International Night have been circulated by organiser, Glenn Kelly and food contribution co-ordinator, Shelley Yeo. The event is being held next Saturday evening at the Lot six Zero Eatery in Innaloo.

Be there by 6.30pm in traditional themed dress to be eligible for a 'best dressed' prize!

SOS Winter Cup 2024 -  Results

SOS Captain, Andrea, announces the results of the competition.

The winner of the most honest player of the day went to Kerry who persevered in the foul weather but was let down by her putter and driver resulting in a net score of 90. Kerry apologised for not being able to stay for the meeting, but generously donated $10 to the Ash Tray Fund for her several contraventions of the SOS 'Fines Rules'!

Which left President Gerry, who scored 86, to be delegated to read the fines list and receive the bag of lollies!

Gerry claims the bag of lollies!

Round 2 competition results

The winner of the 2nd round for the SOS Winter Cup was Greg Bennett who scored a very respectable 70 points in the inclement conditions. Three strokes further back came Vickie Scarff and Gary Burgess each on 73.

Greg Bennett wins $40 gift voucher for winning Round 2 !

Vickie Scarff receives the SOS Winter Cup trophy from SOS Captain Andrea Williams.

Followed by a 'shoey' . . . . . !!!

There you are!  I said the trophy would be mine by the end of the day !

Eagles & Birdies

No Eagles today, but the following birdies were made:

Earle on hole 11
Brett on holes 4 & 17
Shelley on hole 17
Gary on hole 6
Mark W on hole 17

Ash Tray Collection

Gerry called out the fines and managed to raise a very respectable $44.20 for the Ash Tray Fund. No doubt the wild weather contributed to many an erratic shot, thus bolstering the number of donations!

The amount raised was higher than usual and included Kerry's very generous $10 contribution in absentia!

Gerry reads the list of fines as Andrew and Paul collect the offerings!

Raffle

Derek was the winner of the raffle and received a $20 gift voucher from our sponsor Lot Six Zero Bistro & Eatery !
