Summer Cup, Round One
A stroke competition on the Tuart, the first round of a two week competition.
One of those prestigious trophies, the winner of which will qualify to compete for the Masters Trophy in perpetuity.
That’s the SOS Masters Trophy, not the one at Augusta. Still, you could always ask.
Pick a ball, any ball... |
This week, a collaborative blog, with roving reporters and photojournalists all contributing from the heart of the competition. Thank you everyone.
A fleet of carts were on the starting grid on 7:40am. May have had something to do with the forecast of 41°.
On the grid |
Shelley was up until 3am the night before wrangling cart partners, but the rainbow final field chart she eventually produced was a joy to behold. (And has got us good vibes from the LGBTIQA+ communities too)
Seems inviting? |
And don’t believe anyone who tells you that the poms can’t handle the heat. We’ve had plenty of that back from where we come from - look here:
See - 32.8, what a scorcher!
There were casualties.
I was worried someone was going to pinch it |
Vickie sustained a pulled muscle when she leapt to retrieve her ball from the hole.
Not sure if this was before or after she rechristened Pug Dog as Wiener, as in “Get forked, Wiener”.
Wiener Kelly? Has a certain ring to it |
If you know more, keep it to yourself.
Paul giving himself multiple challenges today |
Gary has, of course, been conspicuous by his absence.
Try and avoid this |
He is on tour. This weekend he is
playing in the Webex Series Sydney at Castle Hill Country Club. This event is run by PGA Australia and is
Invitation Only for 9 All Abilities Players.
Hilly in trouble |
Last weekend he played in the Victorian
Open and finished 9th from 44 players in field. Great result,
Gary, we’ll be following your progress.
Challenging? |
The link at the end of the blog will
show All Abilities - Gary plays under the SOS Golf Group banner.
Brett on the tee? |
You’ll have seen the invitation from Peter to nominate for committee positions at the next AGM - your nominations need to have been received by Feb 29th.
Now the novelties:
Girl’s Longest Drive on the 11th - seems like
no-one got on the board here. Must be those narrow fairways.
Boy’s Longest Drive on the 7th - Don first on the
card, but Paul B got further.
NTP in 3 on the 13th - just one name
here, the ever-present Goochy
NTP in 2 on the 10th - Don, consolation
for missing out on the 7th
NTP on the 18th - Paul B, but trumped by Earle, who cunningly
rolled through the bunker to pop up next to the pin.
Some reports of interesting transactions taking place amongst the
competitors - Paul B was apparently offering Pug Dog a good deal to go back and get the
9-iron he left on the 15th hole. Not sure whether he took up the
offer.
Birdies, of course.
Goochy at 8
Oh. That's me |
Don at 10
Maureen at 17
Paul B at 7
Now, the results:
So, a clear winner on the day, but a good dozen still in
contention for next week.
James has finally got his own clubs back, they seemed to do the job for him today.
