Tuart Course Stableford

The weather forecast predicted very high 30's and south easterly winds, so many decided to use carts in order to avoid some form of physical collapse and / or heat affected strokes!

Nevertheless, 21 SOS members and 2 guests, Jason Warburton and Liz Hardwick, assembled at the Tuart Course for a stableford competition.  As it turned out, the temperature remained at very reasonable levels for essentially all of the game, with considerable cloud cover helping!

Gary, Glen, Brett & Earle

Please note that Gary Burgess will represent SOS at the All Disabilities Golf Competition being held next Friday, 10 February, at the Barwon Heads Golf Club in NSW. Details of the venue, players, club affiliations and handicap can be found at:  https://www.golf.org.au/events#/competition/3777213/info

Best of luck Gary!!!

Andrea, Liz, Michael C, Keith, Carol, Nuria & Barry
ready to tee off!

Andrea receives late golf lesson from Barry - (?)

Goochy, Mark H & Shelley

Looks like Nuria and Mark are going to use a cart!

Goochy checks out his titanium spikes on his ventilated golf sandals!

Fairways and Greens

Tony gets "plugged" in a sand trap!

No problem, as he 'splashed' it out to within about 2 metres of the hole!

The sandals seems to be providing good traction!

Nuria finds her ball way off the ground, held by tree shoots!

But what was the ruling on the lie?

Post Game Meeting

SOS Captain, Gerry Tessier, opened the meeting in the absence of Brett Fordham who, presumably, had shot off after the golf round to watch the Scorchers play at the OPTUS Stadium!

Gerry announces the results!

The Results

Gary Burgess won the competition with 37 points including 2 birdies, the first birdie being the index 2 hole!

Mark Wilson also scored 37 points but relegated to 2nd place on a countback! Mark also scored 2 birdies including the index 1, 4th hole!

Mark Hill was one point behind with 36 points.

Novelty & Raffle Prizes

The Committee has decided that all future Novelty and Raffle prizes will be made by awarding a $5 gift voucher from the Wembley Golf Shop.

Golf balls will no longer be awarded for these activities.

The Committee will review this change after a period of 6 months after feedback from Members.

Annual Membership Subscription

The $140 annual membership fee is past due if you have not already made payment. Cash payments can be made directly to our Treasurer, Shelley Yeo, or to the SOS bank account with ANZ details of which can be provided on request.

Weekly Booking Charge increases $1 to $50

In July 2022 the Wembley Golf management raised booking fees by $1 to $50 per game. SOS has carried this increase since that time.

From 4 February (last week) the SOS Committee has decided to pass this increase on to members by raising the weekly booking fee by $1 to $50.

Anyone who paid $49 to Glen Pope last week (4 February) should add $1 to your next payment to catch up. Future booking fees, including 11 February, will be $50 per player.

Peter Baird tests positive to COVID
Your scribe has no pleasure in reporting that I tested positive to COVID late Sunday night. This is my first infection and at present all symptoms are pretty mild! Incidentally, a RATS done some 12 hours earlier (10am Sunday) was negative. Hopefully, I have not contaminated anyone else, but be aware of the possibility!
