Presidents Trophy

The warmest Saturday so far this summer saw 21 SOS Members and 2 guests, Mitchell and Mark Smith, line up to contest a stableford competition for the Presidents Trophy.

The temperature got up to over 30 c requiring liberal use of sun block, hats and umbrellas.

The Fairways

We can only dream of this happening to us!

Nothing much was reported on any antics during the round, although a number of balls got swallowed by the pond on the 14th hole! A floating dead carp may have received one on the head!

Mark Hill's tee shot on the 15th went some 300 metres only to disappear amongst the short second cut and native grass trees on the right side.  What might have been another birdie ended up as a wipe as Mark declined to walk back up the hill for another shot!

No photographic evidence of this or other calamities were received by the Blogmaster at the time of publishing

Birthdays

Birgit Reinartz celebrated her birthday on 13 November.

Happy belated Birthday Birgit from the SOS mob!!

President's address

As our esteemed President, Brett Fordham, is still enjoying an extended holiday, Club Captain Gerry Tessier brought the meeting to order and announced the competition results.

Everyone enjoying a wind-down from the hot weather!

The Results

Unfortunately for Mark Hill, 2 birdies were not enough for him to escape the honour of last place and being awarded a bag of lollies!

Similarly, for Mitchell Smith who won the game with 36 stableford points but, as a guest, was ineligible to win the trophy!!

So, the winner of the Presidents Trophy, for the second year running, is Peter Baird who managed to scrape up 35 points to beat Gim Ong by 1 point and David Williamson by 2.

In a low scoring, close contest only 6 points separated the top 15 players! Surely some sort of record?

Golden Hole

Congratulations to Stephanie Jeffares for claiming the Golden Hole on the 18th.

As the hole had been claimed last week, the win only yielded $21.

Eagles & Birdies

There were many near misses for birdie but those that actually were holed were few and far between!
Congratulations to the following who demonstrated above average shot making!

Ash Tray Collection

Mark Hill did an excellent job reading out the 'Diggers' fines list. Many players had to toss the coins in to atone for their hapless playing skills!  All for a good cause during November!

The raffle balls rolled and Tony James picked up 1st prize!

Next Week’s Game

A stableford Ambrose 4 competition will be held on the Tuart Course.

Groups of four players work as a team. Each player hits off the tee, the best shot is selected and all other players pick up their ball and place it, within one handspan, alongside the best ball. Each person then hits a second shot from the same spot. The best shot is again selected. This continues until the ball is in the hole. On the putting green the best ball is marked and the other balls are played from this position.

One score is thus recorded on each hole. This is the sum of the best shots used throughout the hole.

During the course of the round all player's drives must be used on a set number of occasions. Generally this is three. Club Captain, Gerry Tessier will confirm the details.
