What a fantastic day for golf! The rain Gods
made a very brief appearance with several minor showers, the sun shone and a bit
of cloud about! All in all, superb golfing weather! Those of Aztec
decent will recognise their God of Rain, 'Tlaloc' . . . . . . . who was
probably a golfer! Picture of Tlaloc exhorting his snake head putter to
do its stuff.
Then,
again, maybe not, but something has enabled the SOS golfers to escape from
major inundation for many many months!!
The Golfer's Lament
They reward us with lucky bounces, and punish us
with nasty breaks. They lift our hopes with a Birdie on the 8th,
and dash our spirits with a Triple Bogey on the 9th.
They discipline us with 17 holes of mediocre play, then taunt us with a miracle
par on the 18th - thus
ensuring we return for another beating next Saturday. They are, of
course, the Golf Gods, the reason why we fervently love - and passionately hate
- the game of golf.
Match
Play can be a great game, particularly if you win! However, there is a near 50%
chance you will loose, particularly if you hang too many balls on the edge . .
. as Brett unfortunately did, letting Mr Consistency (aka Greg Bennett) slip
into the lead.
This was
despite Brett punching his Tee shot on the downhill 14th (dogs leg to left) to
within 45 metres of the pin! Those who witnessed the ball launch into the
heavens at 45 degrees left of the fairway, high over the trees, were suitably
impressed. But, Mr Consistency, who took the low road, may have squared the
hole 👊 ! What the 〽 💣 👾 💨 !
Brett's
tee shot on the 18th was equally as impressive 💣 💨
Even the best of us succumb to the desire to hit the living daylights out of the ball! Eh Brett! |
There were many shots where the ball seemed to defy gravity, pulled left
and right by unseen forces, failed to go in the direction required and
generally resulted in players expressing disbelief in uncertain language.
No so for Kerry who maintained her cool as she executed a number of
shots to extricate her ball from this unfortunate lie!
Then
there was a surprise in store as players rounded the dogs leg on the 18th hole
to find that dead tree painted bright blue!
The Pro Shop
advised it is part of the The Blue Tree
Project - which began in Mukinbudin
in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt - encourages people to talk about mental
health and speak up if they are suffering from depression or anxiety.
The
grass roots movement encourages people to paint a dead tree that needs a
"blue lease on life" in memory of a friend who lost their life to
depression.
BBQ at Tony and Ann's place
After the
game Tony and Ann hosted a post game BBQ at their Floreat residence. A
great venue and much appreciated after the somewhat confined public area at
Perry Lakes. No Kookaburras in sight too!
Look like
the low handicappers had their work cut out!

There are no birthdays this week gone, or the one coming!
Fines for
next week for 4D blocking the driveway and Barry for parking on Tony's lawn!
And for
the owner of this glove should they wish to claim it !
Amazing how many of those 'short putts' do not go in the hole 👾 💣 〽 |
