It's Bastille Day.
The French National Day is the anniversary of Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789,[1][2] a turning point of the French Revolution,[4] as well as the Fête de la Fédération which celebrated the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790. Celebrations are held throughout France.
And presumably the Franch will also be celebrating the winning of the World Cup on Sunday, so it may well be renamed Hangover Weekend by Monday morning.
A new feature on the blog this week - it's called "Whose balls are these?" Take a close look at the puzzle picture below and see if you can work out the owner.
Well, that was a wet one, that was. Clearly the record for how many times the wet weather gear went on and came off again had to have been broken today.
Woe betide anyone who'd left the waterproofs at home, having believed the Met Office forecast that the rain would hold off until later in the afternoon.
If you do need to invest, here's a website dedicated to wet weather gear for golfers during the British summertime.

Yes, count yourself lucky - here we only get six days a year like this.
Here's a historical marker, indicating a remarkable and very rare event:
And just in case you needed to be reminded of those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer again, here's Nat King Cole at his very best:
Bastille Day is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the national day of France, which is celebrated on the 14th of July each year. In French, it is formally called la Fête nationale The National Celebration and commonly and legally le 14 Juillet (the 14th of July).[3]

Not this picture, I know whose balls these are. Further down. |

So, fourth round of the Club Championship, so some of us now needing only one more game to qualify. Remember, best five out of the seven rounds count, but you do need to play at least five games to qualify. If you want to know who's the golfer to beat, go back through the old blogs and see who's looking dangerous.

Now, "Whose Balls Are These?"
I'll give you a clue. Don't be fooled by the colour.
Now you know why they call me "The Stag" |
The novelties were less novel this week than last, but Stephanie managed to win the Golden Hole, in spite of there not being a huge amount at stake.

We gather she staggered home with the princely sum of $21.50 (no, I don't know how the fifty cents came about either).

And the fourth round saw some stellar performances, none more so than Richard Yeo, who managed to pip Max on countback. Gim's generous sponsorship saw Richard walking home with a very nice cardboard box.
I've always wanted one of these |
Which on further examination, proved to be not just a cardboard box
The French-themed wine and cheese thingy takes place tonight at Kerry and Paul's place.
Weather permitting, there will be much celebration and dancing like this:
Then again, there may not. So, whose balls were they?
Mine, all mine! |
That's quite enough of this nonsense. |
