Our game contains many annoying moments. Recognise this one?
Best field for quite a while, over thirty members turning out for a great day's golf, with a huge range of scores.
Running out of lick with all those labels |
Birthdays for Brett (Jan 1st), and Kerry (Jan 9th).
She'll be in Ireland by then, so don't forget your scarf and gloves, Kerry. And before you go buying a present, Paul.....
Some interactions with wildlife this week. Frances managed to hit a duck.
Oi! |
This magpie lark insisted on clearing Jan's line to the hole on the twelfth, not letting her putt until he was satisfied that every little blemish had been pecked clean.
There, that should do it. |
Paul managed to treat the group standing on the fourteenth tee to a fly-past, as he reached the fifteenth green from the thirteenth fairway.
As if the game wasn't hard enough already! |
And Richard Osborne managed to ferret one away on the seventh.
Feeling a bit of a Dick |
Here's a rule to bear in mind if you've got room for a spare club in your bag:
Is it OK to use a
long putter to measure club lengths?
Yes. There are several instances in the Rules of Golf when measuring using club lengths comes into play, most notably in taking relief from an obstruction or dropping a ball (you know, "drop two club lengths from ..."). Long putters are longer than drivers, sometimes significantly so.

Is there anything
in the Rules of Golf that governs which club to use when measuring club
lengths?
No, there isn't. The rules don't prescribe or prohibit any clubs. In
two of its Decisions, the USGA has specifically cleared long putters for use in
measuring club-lengths.
So, there you have it. Although I don't think an extendable ball retriever complies, sorry, Peter.
Bugger! |
Today we managed to get as far as the ninth before we concluded that the novelties had not been put out this week.
However, with the help of a few scraps of paper we managed to salvage the competition.

Many thanks to Peter for his kind sponsorship this week, and congratulations to Keith for a great round on a day with plenty of competition (and commiserations to Richard Yeo for losing on countback).
The New Year Cup in new hands |
Great scores from our guests today - Max came home with 108, and Charlie managed 30 points from after only playing sixteen holes. Meanwhile:

And a belated presentation to Greg, for his recent win, and thanks to Brett for his sponsorship of that particular contest.
We put Frances into the photo so he didn't look too lonely, Brett.
This looks fun. Maybe tee off for the start of the season? |
And the raffle went to Earle this week, so if you need a loan...don't ask him.
And while we're at it, here's our best moment from today's game:
