Stableford

Thanks to Vickie from the Blogmeister for standing in last week - a very entertaining outcome.

In case you were wondering (which you probably weren't), I was away on a very important butterflying expedition to the South coast, where we discovered Trapezites atkinsi, which is one of Australia's rarest butterflies.

Unfortunately it's small, brown, and rather dull.

This one's a bit more interesting. Fiery Jewel from Stirling Range

But this week, back to normality. And following in the tradition of comments that merit a mention, Vickie turns up trumps with "Gucci? He's French isn't he?"

Just for the record:

Guccio Gucci was born in 1881, in Florence, Italy. In 1921, Gucci opened his first shop in Florence, specializing in leather goods, and quickly built a reputation for quality, hiring skilled craftsmen to work in his shop.

Now here's a thought. Suppose there was a rule that said it is the responsibility of every golfer to ensure that his or her playing partners have an enjoyable round?

Wouldn't that improve the game!

Dinner next week at  6:30 for 7:00. Pearl River, City Beach. Don't know where it is? Stick it in Google Maps or Apple Maps. They both know the location.

(There's another one at Guangzhou in China. Don't get the wrong one.)

There have been a few complaints that there doesn't seem to be much of a theme to the blogs, so this week, we're going with PWP:

That's People With Pies.

And if there was a caption competition today, we'd be asking just what is Brenda indicating the length of here. In the circumstances, and in the interests of decency, we'll wait and tell you at the end of the blog.

A warm welcome to John Messenger who has apparently avoided being blackballed by the committee and has gained membership of SOS. 38 points today, John, an excellent effort. Also joining this illustrious group is Greg Dunkfield. Looking forward to seeing both of you in the trophies soon.

Someone told me I was getting the names all wrong today. I'm just not sure who it was.

Congrats to Ross on his birthday. Already got the Mustang. What about a caravan to tow behind it?

Earle is sponsoring a Charity Day at Mandurah Country Club this Thursday. Always a great day out, and there may still be spots available. Talk to or email Earle if you're interesting in coming along, where you'll find lots of familiar faces.

Tine for a group selfie.

Gary is possibly going into hospital on Thursday, if the surgeon reckons he's up to it. We'll be thinking of you Gary, all the very best.

Steff's new sponsor. (No, I don't get it either..)

So - the novelties first.

Many thanks to Don for his sponsorship this week, and a great round by Thomas.

And in second place:

Field Marshal Ober Leutnant Erich von Hendy

It must be the moustache. I refer you all to:

And a late entry to the PWP lists:

Here's a thought for the day:

A priest, a doctor, and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers.

The engineer fumed, “What’s with those guys? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes!”

The doctor chimed in, “I don’t know, but I’ve never seen such inept golf!”

The priest said, “Here comes the green-keeper. Let’s have a word with him.”

He said, “Hello George, what’s wrong with that group ahead of us? They’re rather slow, aren’t they?”

The green-keeper replied, “Oh, yes. That’s a group of blind firemen. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime.”

The group fell silent for a moment.

The priest said, “That’s so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight.”

The doctor said, “Good idea. I’m going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if there’s anything he can do for them.”

The engineer said, “Why can’t they play at night?”

And just what is Brenda indicating? How far she was short of collecting on the golden hole today, of course. (Well, what else could it be?)

Next week, President's Cup. Stableford. Then off to the dinner. See you all there.
