Club Championship, Round 2

What? Thirty one degrees in the middle of May, when we'd all put the sunscreen away for the winter!

And what a great turnout, so good to see some long forgotten friends back on the tee.

Now I've finished my house, I'll be pestering you all more often

In spite of the near-perfect conditions, not all of us managed near-perfect scores. Far from it.

Apart from my drives, chips and putts, I wasn't doing too badly

Never mind, Club Championship is about the best five scores from seven, so still plenty of opportunity to move up the leader board.

Caption competition - golf ball to winner (send to me, or add to comments section below)

Congrats, Ross. A good one out of the bag when it mattered.

I baked cakes for a diabetic. Oh, well...

Peter managed to snaffle yet another golf ball in the raffle, after his all-comers record last week.

This one's for Roland (or put it in Google translate)

First week in a long time we'd sold all the raffle tokens.

Next week, Stableford on the Tuart.

So, here's the thought for the week:

Stableford

It's that time of year when it's still a bit nippy for the first couple of holes:

A couple of handsome Australian Shelducks on the first tee this morning

Reckon if we hit up on them, they'd move a bit faster?

A bit of a lean turn out today.

Steph's off to the land of the long white cloud

We were missing a number of the familiar faces.

..but not these familiar faces

And if you wondered why you'd never heard the words "Dutch" and "sense of humour" in the same sentence before, here's why:
Loosely translates as "I've heard that if you want to play golf, you need to have a handicap"

We'll be having a chat with the Eagles about these early bounce-down times - don't they realise some of us have divided loyalties?

Who's shoes are these (and very smart they are, too)

But always a good opportunity to improve your chances of featuring in the consistency trophy stakes - sixth place today with only 32 points, and a very nice second with 35.

Looking very good on three score years and fifteen!!

We're all reminded that there is no more moving of the markers. Golflink stipulate that everyone who plays on any particular course on any particular day must play under the same rules and conditions, as far as possible. This means everyone, not just SOS. Golflink uses everyone's results on the day to calculate a DSR, a daily scratch rating, which is applied to all scores to compensate for, say, very poor weather or exceptional conducive conditions (can't imagine what they'd be..).

Three amigos (well, they were on the first tee, anyway)

For this reason, we now play to the rules that are printed on the Wembley card, including those for preferred lies, etc.

Richard Yeo's birthday this week, apparently celebrated with a very nice slice of cheesecake. A significant milestone, I believe (the birthday, not the cheesecake), and Ian Holmes has also celebrated his birthday at the end of April.

Thanks to Max for organising the novelties this week - some interesting challenges.

And big thanks to Ian for sponsoring this weeks competition. He had a good stab at carrying off his own prize, but Glen was unstoppable this week:

Specially mention must be made of Peter Baird, who managed to not only win the $10 in the raffle, but also two more balls, as  a result of his spread betting on single number integers. Bet 365 are looking into it.

Your committee will be meeting after the game next week. Anything you think needs attention, let us know.

Next week - Club Championship, Round 2. Get your best game ready.

So, who's shoes were they?

Mine, all mine.
