Match Play Quarter Finals & 4BBB Par

Tuart Course:  15 July 2017

PROTEST:  The Committee is meeting to determine whether players with dual citizenship are eligible to be SOS members.  Current members being investigated are Stephanie and Glen but there could be many more!
Not too worried that the protest would be upheld.  These Aussies need the Kiwis to keep the economy going
Self confessed dual citizen - looking a bit more worried than Steffie!
If the protest is upheld, does this mean that Steffie and Glen need to return all of their trophies/cups/golden hole money etc?  Or, will the Committee follow the High Court which held that decisions/laws made by Parliament including ineligible members at the relevant time would stand.  This will not be an easy decision for the Committee.

Competition
Whose legs are these?  First to notify a Committee member with correct name wins a ball!

Escaping the Paparazzi!

Hi Glen, nice red short, but, like Tiger, shouldn’t it be worn on last day of match play comp? Glen ominously replied, this is the last day of the knockout!
Read on to see if Glen could be beaten twice by Stephanie in Match Play.

Wait, don’t take the picture yet, I want to get my top off!
Coach at it again – it is not a penalty before the game!

Fashion firsts continue at Wembley

Been missing my Saturday morning hug!

MATCH PLAY RESULTS

Stephanie Jeffares v Glen Pope:  Stephanie wins 2/1
Red shirt was the right call after all! Steffie now with only her jacket (not top) off. (Ignore the rabble at the back)

Lynne Malone v Gary Burgess:  Gary wins 4/2
Lynne needed to club Gary harder at the start!!

Shelley Yeo v Greg Bennett:  Greg wins 4/3
Always a difficult task to beat Greg in Match Play!

Paul Gardner v Peter Baird:  Peter 2/1
Played last Tuesday and reports firsthand from the players as follows:
Paul:  What a great day it was, apart from my result!  Completely out-played tho the downturn happened after a miracle lost ball on the 4th???!!!   Peter hardly missed a fairway, chipped well and putted far too well for my liking,,,, and the best bit we had an absolute ball chatting (even from 100m away!)
Peter:  Now that Paul has brought up the issue of losing his ball on the 4th I have to admit that, for Paul, it must have been an unnerving experience and an portent  of  things to come! My take was that it must have been an act of celestial intervention and I was clearly fated to win the match!
Whatever the case, while I was working my way up the left side of the 4th fairway, finally finding the green after 4 shots, Paul’s drive found the 2nd bunker on the right from which he hit a soaring iron that appeared to land a meter or two directly behind the flag. However, after checking that he had not eagled the hole, no amount of searching could locate his ball. Presumably, it was either deeply plugged or had hit the flag stick, a sprinkler head, or the cement curb to the flower bed directly behind the green and kept going . . . a long way!
Last word from Paul:  Well deserved win Peter, ''twas fun.

Looking forward to the All /girls Group!

4th        Richard Yeo and Rob Gray + 1
Dynamic duo – teamed together again!

4th        Thomas Reilly and Peter Baird +1
At least happy thoughts before the game!

Lollies:  Earle and Ross -5 (Most unusual in a Par game to have only one minus score – bad luck boys!)

The Novelty Chronicles:  no results this week as my roving reporter, having come last, was too busy weeping after the game to pay any attention to the results!
However, course controller Bruce was heard to say before the game that he was very disappointed that there was no closest to the hole in 2 on a par 5 – there is always next week!

BIRDIES
Stephanie on the 7th; Stan on the 9th

NEXT WEEK (ie tomorrow):  Winter Cup 1 on the Old Course.  GA Handicaps remain the same for both rounds of Winter Cup;
AND
Christmas in July at the home of Thomas

Club Championship 4 – Tuart Course:  8 July 2017

SHOCK, HORROR!!! Earle rushed into my office on Thursday shouting “How can it be!  15 handicap last week on the Old Course and now 14 on the Tuart!!””Shush shush” I said as I calmed him down “I will check Golflink”.  Sure enough a massive reduction in the Tuart slope to 115 for men and 114 for ladies.  Glen kindly highlighted in the Timesheet those players suffering a reduction in their handicap.  However, no change to the hole indexes with the Ladies index for the Par 5 13th still 12!

Before the Game

Steffie surrounded by her friends!
Not too sure what Treasurer Shelley is doing - counting the money, looking for loose change?

Old age catching up with President Vickie - caught trying out the mobility/golf scooter!

Rob and Richard looking like contenders to take over the Two Grumpy Old Men title from Earle and Mal

Kiwi Rules dominate start of play

No, not another example of Kiwi sporting supremacy or Kiwi frilly pants fashion!

Put yourself into the scene:  1st group at the 1st Hole; Roger tees off; Paul tees off; Gary gets ready to tee off but has to drastically stop his shot half way though as Steffie, 30 metres in front on the womens’ tee block tees off!  I ‘m not sure that this was a parochial gesture for Kiwis but more kindly think that it was Women First which I generally condone!

This was fairly true for many players today.  However, Mrs Rabbit did not cater for Peter, Ross and Earle on the par 5 13th hole - all hitting into the bush, followed by a resounding thump as their balls connected with trees and all ending up on the fairway.  Earle and Peter dutifully paid their fines, we’ll catch up with Ross next week!

A good indication of Peter's game - Appalling was his verdict afterwards

Best way for Phil McKeague was down the 17th fairway to the 16th hole and down the 18th fairway to the 17th hole.  My secret reporter advised me that when teeing off on the 16th, Phil ended up on the 17th fairway level with the 16th hole and when teeing off on the 17th ended up on the 18th fairway and then lobbed over the trees to land on the 17th green!

Chapter 2 - Grumpy Old Men (not sure which two!)

Roger overheard saying he got a lessor from the Coach but quickly corrected his story to reveal that Coach had made a favourable comment on his play!

The Novelty Chronicles

Longest Drive 0-16 – 4th Hole:

"Some Smarty Pants in the 1st Group"
Apparently, this was Gary who placed the marker but forgot to put his name on the marker!

Nearest the Pin – 9th Hole

Roger beaten by Ron.

Nearest the Pin– 15th Hole

A contentious marker!! Steffie left immediately after the game, probably upset because Gary forgot to put the Longest Drive 17-36 handicap on the 10th hole and therefore changed it to NTP in the 15th!  Reports of slow play as well as we were all (other than Gary) looking for this marker!  Only one name, Earle.

Nearest the Pin in 3 – 17th Hole

Gary, Jan and then Lynne.
Pic taken from Blog archives – Lynne was camera shy this week – or was mechanical failure (oversight) by Blogmeister!

Last week's longest drive winner, Rita receiving her ball

Repeat photo for Rob on the left!

AND THE LOLLIES! Kerry Gardner

Smiling now after getting in first for self imposed fines and a healthy boost to SOS finances for a Garcia (4 puts), Doing a Yeo (club abuse), Touching the Lucky Wood (tree to fairway), more than 10 shots, excessive swearing!!!  Jan hiding her eyes in horror?

Bit too frazzled this morning to make the game dealing with his second insurance claim this week – the first being a fallen fence and this morning a broken water pipe in the ensuite, a smiling Glen (reminiscent of a 1960's filmstar) arrived after the game in time for drinks and awards.

Winter Rules:  The Committee has made the temporary winter rule for July allowing players, when taking a preferred lie on the fairway of both Old and Tuart Course, to clean their ball.  The ball is to be marked before moving and is to be placed within 30cm of its original position no nearer the hole or on the green.

This is not how you place your ball!

NEXT WEEK:  Four Ball Better Ball Par.  The Matchplay quarterfinals will also be played at the same time as a separate competition.
