VC Choice

Sponsored marvellously by SOS.

And so the last Saturday of Summer certainly didn't fail to come to the party as it produced a sweltering 40+ day,,,,, for some this was too much and many decided their time would be better spent on the beach/by the pool/in the aircon/ or anywhere other than the golf course.

For those that did play the majority took the easier option and hired a cart (Wembley actually sold out of them heheheeeee), whilst only the foolish decided to walk (El Pres, The Scarlet Pimpernel & Tomothy)

And some, The Coach, simply brought his own,,,, tho it did look at times that it should have some balancing-training wheels as it precariously traversed the course.

If anybody feels the need to buy him some bumper stickers to help decorate the vehicle please do,,,,,,,,

though it'll have to wait as The Coach is heading to his annual jaunt to Vietnam with his lovely bride and babs.

Personally i reckon we should give it a name as well????
Any thoughts:-

The Menace of Wembley
Ghost Rider
Rubiks 4 wheeler (due to the difficulty of construction)

And whilst we are talking of general news, a VERY BIG SHOUT OUT must go to Ron Argos Conway for his significant birfday!!!!

CONGRATS MATE,,,, it was a pleasure playing with you, unfortunately the quality of golf didn't shine thro,,, heheheheeeee
i hope you had a marvellous one!

oh and finally,,,,,,,,,

can we all please offer The Booking Officer some sympathy as he's clearly feeling a little under the weather as he sports a fine shiner!

We do hope that it's from the operation and not from an other 'altercation' after a couple of cheeky beverages????

The Results
So what happened in the heat,,,, apart from many red-faces,,,, which wasn't aided by ZERO VISITS from the drinks cart on the back nine!!!!!
Don't worry it was reported!!!!

Many thanks to the ScoringMeister,,, you've been missed,,,,, so you'll actually get a full list for a change

Ambrose Pairs

A fine Saturday, and it was Ambrose Pairs. How do we know that? Because Peter found the cards after we'd all finished playing. Don't worry, we fined him heavily.

The nice thing about Ambrose Pairs is that if your partner's done a great shot you don't have to worry, and if your partner's done a poor shot you can blame them. Kind of a win-win scenario.

And you probably didn't know this:

The Ambrose system was named by the secretary manager of the Victor Harbour Golf Club South Australia in honor of Richard and Mary Ambrose from Michigan,USA, who lived in the area in the 1960s where they had pastoral interests. It was also called the shotgun game. The Ambrose's brought the game from their home club of Spring Valley Country Club in the US where it was called a different name, most like the shotgun game. The secretary of the Victor Harbour Club named the Australian version after Richard and Mary and it caught on when it was first played in a National Ambrose Competition at the Liverpool Club in Sydney in March 1974 for a prize of $5000. One of the winners of the first event was the professional Lindsay Sharp who had a chain of golf shops which he later sold to Ray Drummond.

So there.

Where Brett's monster drive was outdriven by Bernie's even monsterer drive on the 12th.
We were all a bit hot and weary by the time we'd finished, but that didn't stop us having an excellent raffle, which was won by the grandad-to-be-again-very-soon Richard Osborne.

Meanwhile his little sister had another great round, completing her return from broken ankle, so no more excuses about "just try to hit a few balls to see if I can". She can, and she's hitting them better than most of the rest of us.

We had a bit of a shout out for Greg Bennett - we're missing you Greg, so get back here again as soon as you can manage it.

Guess who won the raffle

Summer Cup Rnd 2

Sponsored by the lovely Stiff.....

And so we came to the 2nd Round of the Summer Cup, with The Coach being the current leader with a mighty fine round of nett 64,,,,

will he hold his nerve?

will someone stand up to the challenge?

Only time will tell,,,,,

But before we get onto the golf it was great to welcome back Fran The Broken to the fold!!!

Great to see ya back m'dear, let's hope we see you again soon.

And also brilliant to see the Lovely Rita & Ron,,,,, shame we didnt get more of a chance to catch up

So what happened in the golf???????

The Results
Well to keep it short The Coach choked and The BlogMeister came to 'da party' and managed to pip Oirish to the winners circle.....

So the Winner of the Day was

Ciaran da Oirish

But unfortunately for him not quite good enough over the two rounds

As Gardi the BlogMeister took home the bacon for the overall Winner of the Summer Cup 2017, getting his name on it for the 2nd time

wooo hooo,,, yeh baby!!!

As for the rest of the results, once again my Score Secretary has let me down, and as i was celebrating my win i didn't take any notes,,,

From memory the combined scores might go something like this for the top few,,,,

1st-  Paul G
2nd- Ciaran
3rd-  Gary
4th-  Kerry G

Novelties
Not a huge amount to say but without any controversy whatsoever the Novelties pretty much went to the trustworthy last group
hehehheeeee

NTP3-  Ciaran
NTP9-  Ciaran
LDL-    Gim
LDM-   Paul

Yeh baby,,,,,,, woo hooo

And with a paltry amount in the pot, The Golden Hole stayed to accrue for another week.

Fines of the Week
And so the theme goes on with not very much to report, except for the following:-

Brenda-- for daring to have a birfday (yes poor i know!)

Tom--  for admitting to the fact that he got paid, and hasn't actually worked this year,,, lucky bugger!

Tom--  for admitting he was giving up golf to go and join The Vickster at her 'mosaic club'
WTF?????

Tom--  for his announcement of a slight 'romantic error' with his beautiful lady and some wax

Paul--  for drinking and driving in the cart,,,,,
in my defence it was only to dull the pain of a slow round.

Ciaran-- for announcing that
'i was robbed,,,,, that trophy would've looked great by my other FIVE'

I'm speechless

Stableford

Sponsored by the bubbly Brenda.

And so what did Saturday 14th January have in for us?
Well for one it was damned hot,,,, despite warnings from The WeatherMan we sweltered under the WA sun!

Good to see Gordo, Trav and Dave join us for a cheeky round,,,,,

Let's hope we see a bit more of ya!!!!!

With the heat my frozen towel managed to only last the first few holes before it turned into a warm soggy mess.

And to add to the confusion, we were ushered to the 10th as we played the course in a slightly backwards fashion.

All very confusing for some,,,,,, however the general consensus was that it made for a pleasant change, although those that had 'mentally prepared' the first few holes were buggered! heheheeee

We had another celebrity guest join us too, as Colin of Arabia was see wielding his wand!

So what happened on the day????

Scores
Unfortunately my secretary (Vickster) has let me down and i didn't take note of any of the scores, so apologies for the lack of info.
As such i can only 'bookend' the scores:-

The Winner of the Day was El Pres Shelley, with a delightful 41 points.

It was a top round with hardly a fairway missed, as she accumulated the points.

If a few putts had a bit more luck, the score could've been soooooooo much better.

Well done Pres!

And bringing up the rear, and with the honour of reading out the fines was our good old mate Gordo.

Top fines Big Man!!!

Novelties
It has to be noted, that there was some confusion with the novelties, which led to the cry of:-
"Worst novelties in the world Evers!"

LD --  Dave Mandy
NTP-- Earl
NTP-- Lyn
NTP-- Ciaran     (though nearly missed out due to late payment!)

And once again the Golden Hole didn't go off.

Fines of the Week
There is no need for a preamble this week so i'll right into it for ya

Vickie-- for bossing us all around, banging the table, and generally being demanding. Though someone's funny response was:-
"Now we know why Earl just ignores you,,,, chuckle, chuckle!"

Brenda-- for lining up a shot with the wrong person's club, then realising she has left her correct club in the bunker of the previous hole,,,,,, and then getting Lyn to drive in the cart back to get it!!!!

Paul-- for resembling a beetroot after the round,,,,, and even more miraculously NOT having a beer or alcoholic drink either during or after the round!
What is the world coming to????

Gordo-- for the trick shot of hitting a drive backwards!
The ball apparently struck a branch in front of the ladies tee then rebounded to the back of the men's tee,,,,, so not only 'hitting up' on himself, but a 'slut' and probably followed by 'excessive swearing' and some 'club abuse',,,,,,,,
nice work dude.

And saving the best for last:-

Stiff-- for playing with herself, not being allowed into the bush, and not looking for men's balls.
Apparently "Mum told me never to go bush with strange men"

How do you work out this scoring again?
My head hurts,,,, please get me beer

I have nothing to add
