MatchPlay QF and 4BBB Par

Beautifully sponsored by SOS, i think???

And so it's the Return of the Blog!
Wahhhhaaaay i hear you all cry,,,,, but before i continue i must put a big thankyou out to BlogMeister Derek for a simply stirling effort in my absence!

Thanks mucker!

Yes the Broken Man and his beloved Wifey are back amongst the throng.
And a great relief is was too helping avoid the Chaos that appears to be the World at the moment,,,

Trump
Brexit
Iceland
Libs or Labs

Arrgghhhhhh

As you can already see by my potential mistake above, my powers of concentration are once again at the

height of my spider senses,,,,, so it might take a week or so for me to get fully back into the swing (yes, that pun was intended!)

so what was on the cards for this Saturday i hear you all cry?

Well The WeatherMan assured us of a fine day throughout,

though it was going to be finer for some than others as we entered the

QuarterFinals of the MatchPlay.

Match 1 - Gary 'SickNote' Burgess v Earl 'The Law' Scarff

--- the pic doesn't do the amount of sweat pouring of this poor man!
Go home you fool!!!!!

Match 2 - Colin 'Santa' Kerr v Brett '4D' Fordham,,,,

with Glen 'Hired Muscle' Pope as the caddy, due to a previous lost bet!

Match 3 - Phil 'The Trainer' McLeod v Lynne 'Terminator' Malone

--- sorry it was the only pic i had of either Lynne or Phil on the day??????

Match 4 - Ciaran 'Oirish' McGlue v Gordon 'Goliath' Neilsen

--- Self proclaimed match of the decade

Meanwhile the rest of us mere mortals faced battle in a game of 4BBB Par, which confused the hell out of most of us,,,

Actually a very simple game, and a great way back into trying to remember what to do after not swinging a club for ~8 weeks,,,,,
so it was the same as always

See Ball, Hit Ball,,,,,,,, and hope!
hehehehehe

On so onwards to the scores on the doors:-

Matchplay QF:
Earle Scarff d Gary Burgess
Colin Kerr d Brett Fordham and dejected caddy Glen
Lynne Malone d Phil McLeod
Ciaran McGlue d Gordon Neilsen

WELL DONE TO ALL THE WINNERS!!!
Next week's draw is as follows

Matchplay Semi-final:
Lynne Malone v Earle Scarff
Ciaran McGlue v Colin Kerr

and for the rest of us:-

4BBB Par:

Derek Longhurst and Shelley Yeo +11
What a GREAT SCORE!!!! Top result!!!!

Malcolm Yeo and Kerry Gardner +8
Phil McKeague and Paul Gardner +7
Graeme Powell and Ian Holmes +7
Ross Campbell and Rob Gray +6
Stephanie Jeffares and Greg Bennett +4
Peter Baird and Gim Ong +3.

Novelties
NTP 3--  Gary
NTP 9--  Kerry
LD  10--  Gordon
NTP14--  Gordon

Golden Hole

A bit of a unique one here as we had 2 people inside the distance, to claim the massive earnings.

Firstly Phil 'I've got a new swing' McKeague stroked it to within 3 feet,,,,,, only to turn around from the next tee to see Peter 'The Cat Whisperer' Baird knock it to 2 feet!!!!!

Spend that $23 unwisely Peter!

And now, the bit you've all been waiting for:-

Fines of the Weeeeeeeeeeeek
Just a few to work with today, but there are a couple of absolute doozies

Glen-- on losing a previously mentioned bet he became Fordy's caddy for the day, and boy did he come prepared as he was caught on the first tee lubing up a towel in order to clean Fordy's balls and clubs!
i can honestly say i have never seen such a thing on a golf course before hehehehehe

Then we had Shelley on the second, clearly thing ideas above her station as she tried to tee off from the men's tee. Gender bias????
Though as you can see by her and Derek's score they obviously thought that Phil and I were no match!

Ciaran & Gordon-- it would appear that the self proclaimed 'battle' of the decade nearly came to blows as Gordo tried to push Ciaran out of the moving cart.
Yes Ciaran you did indeed have a mountain to climb

Derek-- then there was poor old Derek who on the 17th was most distressed as where he wanted to tee off from was a large mound of duck poo,,,,,
"i really don't want to step in that!"
So what happened, after stroking an absolute beauty down the middle of the fairway, he stood back to admire the shot,,,,,, only to step in the poo!!!!

Random Pics

The patented boomerang drive, which way you gonna go Ciaran???

Let battle commence

These selfies are tough when you're looking into the sun

The ladies in deep discussion

Not bad for a winters day eh?

Angry Phil after Peter just beat him on the Golden Hole,,,, damn you golfing gods!

Apparently the better man won????

Discussions about the new swing and the 4 birdies

Beauty and the beast,,,,, you decide!

Just for Fordy,,,,, it must've been the special towel action, but once again your ball got found in the bush

Heheheheheee

Match Play, Round 3

Wet, wet, wet.

Should have spent a bit more and got those balls that float

One of those wonderful days when it teemed down on the first tee, and the greens were puddled.

Brett discovers his usual touch around the greens may need a little adjustment today

The first few holes were crazy golf, where balls stopped dead on the green - that is until you decided to really smack it one, at which point it flew effortlessly into the bunker on the other side.

And aren't we all looking forward to playing crazy golf here soon?

But that's golf.

Not skimping on the wet weather gear today

And it's match play, so no-one counts the strokes once the hole's over.

Nice and dry in here

After all, an eleven still beats a twelve.

So - we made the best of it, and kept smiling (mostly).

I'm going to hit him with a bit of calisthenics on the second nine
 - should be enough to put him off

Upcoming birthdays for Don and Ben.

Derek's best glove (you should have seen the other one)

And an advance notice for the Country Cup - we're booked into Sun City for the day after the AFL Grand Final. It's an 8am tee-off, Colin's taking bookings for a bunk in his Motorhome the night before, he'll be parked by the first tee.

BYO sausages for the barbecue, though

So, the Golden Hole remained unclaimed today. Let's face it, it would be a tad unsporting to go for it when there's only $15 in the pot. Meanwhile, the pot on the Tuart has grown to the princely sum of - wait for it - absolutely nothing.

Finished with maximum points

The novelties, plenty of competition this week, but the eventual winners were:

NTP

2nd
Brett
NTP
In 3
8th
Earle
NTP
In 2
13th
Ciaran
LD

12th
Roland

A few people not in competition today, their results:

Charmaine 28 pts
Roland       28 pts
Kerry         29 pts
Graeme     34 pts

My grandpa got 28 points!

Graeme surprised us all, and most of all himself, with birdies on the 1st and 16th. Well done, mate.

And this is after a win...imagine if he'd lost

There's been some discussion about the finer points of how to handle those frustrating moments that can crop up anywhere during the round. I'd like to point members to this very brief but very useful coaching video.

And now, the competition that really mattered - the third round of the match play:

Malcolm prepares for some hefty fines

As a result of which, eight players go through to the quarter final. Derek and Bernie very kindly vacated their positions in the final eight, so that other, more desperate players could have a go. (Actually, they won't be here for all the finals rounds)

Mister three-time-loser

Which means, the pairings for the quarter finals are as follows:

Brett
v
Colin
Ciaran
v
Gordon
Phil McCloud
v
Lynne
Gary
v
Earle

We wish them all the best for hard-fought rounds played in the best spirit. Remember, if you haven't enjoyed the round, you've both lost!

Match Play, Round 2

The Red Devils

Another day of nail-biting tension as the Match Play Competition moves into its second week. With two points for a win, one for an all square result, and absolutely nothing for a loss, the potential finalists are beginning to come out of the woodwork.

Sweetness and light on the first tee

So, without more ado, let's get straight down to the results.

First, the novelties.

NTP
2nd
Phil McLeod
NTP in 2
6th
Stephanie
NTP in 2
10th
Phil McKeague
NTP in 3
11th
Phil McKeague

We note in passing that Phil McKeague managed to score birdies on the 8th, 10th, 11th, and 17th. Hitting form just when you don't want to be playing against him in Match Play. And 35 Stableford points for Roland, who managed to compete very effectively against himself in a one-man competition.

The sign says it all

And, in anticipation of his birthday next week, Gary managed to pick up the Golden Hole Jackpot, which stood at a respectable $73. Should be just enough for the babysitter when you take Lin out to celebrate.
Rita after a bit of a tumble
Hope it warms up a bit.
By the way, did you know that golf is a contact sport. Apparently over 13,000 people go to the emergency room each year from the golf course. Click here to see why.
Hurry up and take that picture

Rita would like to mention that had personal experience of that wonderful expression "going arse over tit" this afternoon - fortunately her airbags deployed in time and there were no serious injuries, although Ron did rush over and volunteer to rub them better.

And what of the competition itself? Mostly close fought tussles, with the competition coming down to the last few holes. Not too many gimmes on the putting green, we gather - true match play intensity.

Give him the putt? Tell him he's dreaming.

So, next week, Round 3, before we move on to the finals. And we'll congregate afterwards at Wembley again, unless it's pouring with rain.
