Australia Day Cup Stroke Play Wembley Old Course Saturday 24th January 2015

Your stance, your ball, your puff!
SPONSOR:  SOS
Approaching the SOS Group I was pleasantly surprised by the number of players that made an effort to dress up in Australian Colours and flags to celebrate Australia Day.  Earle's colourful fingernails, Aussie flag in Shelley's pants, Vickie's cart draped in Australian Flags, all set a great vibe to the start of a good golf day.  After 18 holes of play, we could not wait for a cold drink and sausage sizzle at Perry Lakes.  A great gathering once again and food to suit a king, even a cake to end the feast. A great contribution by all.  Many thanks to Paul and Kerry for organising and cleaning up.  As per tradition, The Stangers and Co were the last to leave again.

Stableford Wembley Old Course Saturday 17th January 2015

Sponsor:  SOS

A very pleasant hot summers day for a great game of golf.  I was fortunate to have my husband by my side and played a fantastic game, despite the "honeymoon" comments from my team members Greg and Brett.  Lol you Guys were actually hilarious.
The Stirrer and his Helper!
We had a day of celebrations as our Pommy Friends got their PR - Well done to Kerry and Paul.  I know the feeling of relief, having gone through it myself.  They were awarded a prize for their efforts, presented by the one and only President, I mean our SOS President.

With all the distraction's Kerry battled to hold onto an umbrella even the one she got off Ron!
Kerry does this look familiar!
Welcome to Ron and his beautiful Wife!
Despite last week's disaster game, I brushed up pretty well this week.  The 16th hole made my day! Closest to the pin, birdie, and THE GOLDEN HOLE! Brilliant!

4BBB Stableford Wembley Tuart Course - Saturday 10th January 2015

Sponsor:  SOS

The early start to play resulted in a few grumpy people. eg:  Paul Gardner (should wake up early more often, looking at your results)

Unfortunately I do not have anything to report as I was not well and left straight after playing golf.  Apologies to my poor partner (Malcolm) who had to put up with me trembling like a leaf for 18 holes.   I was amazed at how well Shelley and Stephanie were playing, great golf Girls.

Paul Gardner and Richard Yeo were the winners on Saturday.  Well done Guys.

Summer Cup Stableford Old Course Wembley 3rd January 2015

Sponsor:  SOS

First of all a hearty welcome to Shelley and Malcolm.  Nice to have them back.

The start to 2015 and all looked well partied! The weather conditions made 18 holes of golf very tiring.  The new start time of 8.00am from this weekend will definitely make a difference.  Sorry for the late risers.

I was fortunate to play in the second team with Kerry, Paul and Earle.  Kerry tried her best to play with a painful back.  Paul decided on the 10th hole to go for the green.  Who knows where that little ball landed, never to be found, resulting in a self disqualification as he was too lazy to walk back to the tee! Very upset Mr Gardner walked to the 11th hole and hit at that stage,  the longest drive.  He then ended up putting for an eagle, just missing and birdied the hole.  Lesson to be learnt:  Rather walk back to the tee and reload! You never know when that eagle opportunity will make its appearance!

Well done to Vickey for playing 18 holes with all bones intact, and what a good round she had! Proud of you Girl!

The day won't be a good one if there wasn't controversy, look at the photos below!

Stableford Tuart Course Saturday 27th December 2014

Sponsor:  Ullrich Stanger

Hopefully everybody will be able to see this post as we had gremlins in the system last week.

After a busy week of parties I think we were all a bit lethargic on Saturday, as we had a few players in contention for the "lollies" or else they were just having a sweet tooth!  The course was very quiet and weather was extremely hot.  I invited my sister and brother-in-law to join us for a game of golf.  With Nola making up the team, the day sure made for a lot of laughter.  Magnus had the longest drive and then followed it up with a 50m head up shot.  Ended up ringing the hole.  Nice one Mags.
You did however, show potential when you were putting for an Eagle on the 6th hole but ended up with a birdie.  Great job.

Nola came for a round of exfoliation - spend most of the day in the bunkers! Ha, ha Noles!
"Bon Voyage" to Nola and Steve have a great holiday and come back soon.

It was nice to see Steph showing up again for a game, although it was just to collect the money on the Golden Hole! just not fair!!!!

XMAS CUP

Sponsor: Brett Fordham

Stableford Wembley Old Course Saturday 20th December 2014
Perfect conditions for the Xmas Cup. With everybody in good spirit we headed off to a great day of windy golf! I was teamed up with The Captain and The Gardner. It was an entertaining day with Earle checking all my scores, and would not allow an extra two points - damn, that's a lawyer for you.

After golf we jetted off to Derek and Frances's beautiful house and the tranquil garden setting made for a perfect Xmas Party. My spies told me that ROSS CAMPBELL became a double slut on the 14th hole I think.
Off the Ladies Tee for three and still managed to score "5" for 3 points! seriously Ross, you need to give us lessons on this move!

Scores:
M Freeman, C Kerr 39; J Holm, C Stanger, G Pope 38; G Bennett 37; D Longhurst 35; B Freeman, D Beesley 34; F Longhurst, R Osborne, P McCleod, G Burgess, P Gardner 33; K Gardner, E Scarff 32;
C Wolpers, D Williamson, R Campbell 31; L Malone, I Holm 30; B Fordham 39; G Ong 27; P Baird 26

The Winner of the trophy went to none other than Mrs Mardi Freeman with a "39" score - had to beat me by one point!
The laugh of the day was the sponsored prize. A bottle of Crown in a wine box, thanks to Phil! To those who were there would know what this was all about. Great sense of humour Phil. Mardi eventually was given a choice of wines thanks to the Hosts and Vicky.

Thank you to all for a wonderful afternoon and Kerry keep that fly closed! Thanks for organizing the day, great job once again.

Mr Santa had an awesome afternoon with everybody sitting on his lap and kisses flowing in abundance! Now for the photos of the day:

Anniversary Cup

A gusty day, but not enough to excuse some pretty poor work around the greens. Some of us certainly need some lessons on just how to put that ball in the hole, with a notable contribution of two four-putts from Paul, but who was by no means the only offender.

She's my sister, and she's not supposed to beat me.

Dave Mandy handed in his third card with a creditable 92 off the stick, and the Golden Hole has now jackpotted to $105 - a couple more weeks and it'll be worth going for.

See, if I make it nearest the pin in 2, and make the 2 really small, I win everytime.

Someone tell her she has to bribe the captain a little more discreetly..

Well done, Bruce (who also won the raffle - how does that work?)

Time to reinforce the mantlepiece, Bruce.

Remember, next week straight to Fran and Derek's after the game. If you play and don't plan to make it to the Christmas Cheer, make sure someone who does, has your card.
One more wormburner and I'm taking up lawn bowls...
