Stableford on Tuart

Despite hot and muggy weather conditions, 16 brave SOS-golfers set out for conquering the Tuart golf course. A record of 5 electrical golf carts were counted.

Earle

Waiting for their tee-off observant members expressed genuine surprise seeing Earle in shorts and short-sleeve T-Shirt.

Greg and Colin

Greg and Colin Greg confident with country style straw hats. Greg is definitely ready for "Australia Day", while Colin advertises a well-known garden centre.

Keith, Carol and Barry

The first flight waiting for their tee-off, player no. 4 was nowhere to be seen. Was he doing some last-minute putting practice? Keith, Carol and Barry happily smiling for the photographer.

Gerry, Colin, Greg, Earle

The 4 musketeers shortly before Earle hit his drive dangerously close to the captain’s cart. Luckily no injuries were reported. Gerry was wearing red to make identification easier while searching his (golf) balls.

Peter, Dave, Ian, Tony

Very confident players of the 3rd flight, one of them the day’s winner, but more of that later.

Steph, Birgit, TJ

Stephanie took care of her fellow contestants by spraying them with ice-cold water throughout the game.

Steph, Glen, TJ

Steph sipping her "coffee on the go" while Glen was checking his messages, luckily there was no traffic control on the course. TJ patiently waiting for the prior flight to move on.

*****Make a note in your diaries*****

The annual SOS par 3 competition at Lake Claremont is provisionally scheduled for Thursday, Feb 4th at 5:30 pm. (final date and fee to be confirmed later in the week).

Always a great event, nine holes of challenging golf followed by a meal and drinks on the verandah as the sun goes down.

Apparently, Barry was so keen on getting back to the clubhouse to have a cold cider that he forgot to submit his scorecard. Hence he was not listed on the official competition report

Ian Holmes won again with an impressive score of 39 points, despite 2 wipes on the last 2 holes.

Dave was this week's lucky winner of the famous lollies. He doesn't look too sad, though.

Golden Hole:

There was no winner for the Golden Hole. The Tuart jackpot is now valued at 36 $.

Raffle:

The first raffle prize goes to the captain, who is wondering what's inside the surprise package.

Fines:

Shelley changed the rules for calling out the fines ad hoc. Instead of letting the player who came last announce the fines, she asked each player to announce 1 fine individually. Let's hope that increased the collected $ amount.

What is golf?
Golf is a game in a ball is struck with a club from a prepared area known as the "teeing ground", across the "fairway" to a second prepared area which has a hole in it, known as the "putting green".

New Years Cup

A hot and windy day with little cloud about to protect players from the Perth summer sun! In fact, the wind was so strong throughout the game players were unable to unfurl their sun umbrellas for fear of  watching their equipment sail off into the bush.

But a near record number of 21 members and guests took to the fairways of the Tuart Course to contest the New Year's Cup. Other members were on holidays while Frances was still in quarantine after a trip East to see family.

A special welcome to Zac and Carl Naake , as guests of the President, whose handicaps of 3 and zero respectively added a touch of professionalism to the field.

Dave, Vickie, Ian, Gary & Carol ready to compete.

Birgit, Steph and Carol

Derek, Peter, Earle & Greg all wearing the club colours!

Gerry, Barry & Tony ready to tee off

Maureen, Glen & Tony making a fashion statement?

Teeing off for the first stroke for the new year proved a challenge for some as the ball got caught by the stiff easterly!
The power of the wind carried many a ball off course throughout the game!

The Results

The winner of the New Years Cup for 2021 is Ian Holmes who scored a net 70 strokes to win by one stroke from Dave Williamson with Gerry Tessier another stroke behind.

It was a close battle with 12 players within 7 strokes of the winner!

Ian Holmes receives the New Years Cup and a $40 Gift Card
from Club Captain Gary Burgess

Second place went to Dave Williamson who also won a gift card for $15.

Dave - 2nd place

With Gerry taking 3rd place and a spot on the winners podium!

Gerry - 3rd place

The Ash Tray Collection

Carol's stoic 85 points earned her a bag of lollies and the privilege of  calling out the fines! Carol's efforts were commendable as members coughed up a hefty $22.60 to atone for their bunker antics, windies and a wide range of errant play!

Peter was believed to have donated a small gold coin for taking 8 strokes to escape from the middle bunker on the 7th hole.  The ball landed close to the face and successive strokes had it continually rolling back into his footprints. Others might have putted out of the bunker backwards in order to take a chance of lobbing the ball onto the green!

Birdies, Eagles & the Golden Hole

Congratulations to the 8 players who nailed a total of 9 birdies today. A commendable effort, although none were on the lowest 4 indexed holes 2, 11, 12 & 14!

The Golden Hole - the 3rd Tuart hole - survived for another day and the pot currently stands at $21.

No Eagles were reported!

Novelties

Some better than average shot making gets you into the winners circle!
The players list shows that both Keith and Steph were in the first group which may account for their position as 'contenders' in all categories 🎶

Maureen on the other hand was in group 5 and clearly left her mark!

The Raffle

Stephanie tunes up the raffle barrel, while Birgit, Gerry and Greg look on!

Maureen wins the raffle 1st prize of $10

Birthdays

Although the members register discloses the President's birthday as being on 1 January, this is apparently incorrect!

The register has been updated and now shows there are no members birthdays during the last week or so!

Guests Carl & Zac, - also Glenn K, Brett & Tony

Carol, Tony, Glen, Gerry, Maureen & Barry

Next Week
