Stableford on the Tuart

I suppose it had to happen - it actually rained on our game, which is not surprising as Perth has already received 3 times its average rainfall for November (a record in itself), and it is only half way through the month!

However, the rain showers were not too long or too heavy with good sunny breaks to enable the gear to dry off from time to time.

And what a day it was, what with all that water filling the dams to the brink!

All smiles before the start  - Brett, Glen K & Frances looking confident !

Glen displays his innovative waterproofed buggy for Earle, David & Derek.
The rain cover allows easy access to all the clubs while protecting them from precipitation !

Players were looking forward to Hole 3, the Golden Hole, which has jack-potted over several months to a staggering $250 or so !

Other gossip centered on the unearthing of the Diggers Trophy which had been misplaced last week and unavailable for presentation to Greg Bennett!  Apparently last week the trophy found its way on to the food-mobile and subsequently put it in the Marshall's buggy, where it stayed well after the results were read out and everyone had gone home !

Greg and the Diggers Trophy as Malcolm and Shelley look on.

A rain shower greeted the first group to tee off !

While most groups were making good progress around the course, Group 4 were struck by a bizarre event as they were putting out under falling rain on the 9th green.  After Glen Pope narrowly missed holing out a birdie, he looked up to find that his innovative buggy had disappeared, while the remote control gadget was in still in his pocket.

After much searching the gear was located about 70 metres away, submerged in the lake close to the 10th tee!

Steph and Derek look on as Glen removes his shoes and socks!

Glen wades through the muck to retrieve his buggy as Steph looks out for eels, turtles and leaches!

Aahhh! That's better . . nearly salvaged.

Lets see! Can it be retrieved in one piece?

Many hands make light work !

At this point, Glen decided to call it a day. The electrics had probably ceased up or fused, hypothermia was setting in and it was still raining!

At least the lake was shallow, unlike these unfortunate golfers who suffered a similar dilemma !

Most fortunately, all other players managed to scramble back to the clubhouse, essentially dry and with their equipment intact.

The Diggers Trophy

The SOS President, Brett Fordham formally presents The Diggers Trophy to last week's winner, Greg Bennett.

The  Results

Congratulations to Gerry for taking 1st place in the Stableford competition with a score of 37 points!

Frances came 2nd with a score of 35 points and, on a count-back, with Dave Williamson in 3rd place.

Gerry happy to receive a $40 gift voucher for his win !

Frances takes 2nd place and a $15 gift voucher

Dave takes 3rd place and a $5 gift voucher!

Guests

The President welcomed this week's guest, Maureen Boquest who scored 24 points off a 12 handicap.

Brett explains the history of the Ash Tray collection and the myriad of  misdemeanors to Maureen.

Holes in One (nearly)

Gary's tee shot on the par 3, 18th hole, shaved the pin and stopped within centimetres of the hole.  Gary settled for a birdie!

The Lollies & Ash Tray

Brett took out the honors for the lowest score and picked up the bag of lollies.

There appeared to be quite an amount of fine money collected as the wet conditions played more havoc than normal with balls and equipment malfunctions!

The Novelties

Some nice golf shots in the wet conditions :

Birdies

Don's birdie on the 2nd hole earned him 2 balls, being an index 2 hole.

Golden Hole

Yet again, no-one got close enough to the pin on the par 3, 3rd hole! Which was just as well as there was no marker to record results.  So the pot jackpots again to around $250.  With that much at stake, it may be rewarding to get in a bit of short range practice before next week!

Birthdays

Brett noted that Birgit celebrated her birthday on 11 November and asked Gerry to convey the club's best wishes for the coming year.

The Raffle

Congratulations to Tony Gooch who managed to pick the winning number and collected the $10 cash prize!

Next Week

The President advised that next week is the start of the Summer Season and the competition will be for the Presidents Cup.

The competition, which was won last year by Don Beasley, will be played on the Tuart Course.

DIGGER TROPHY

Another challenge for the SOSes on a sunny November morning ….. PAR….. some of us had to google what that is about ….

PAR??? What is PAR?

others just relaxed and had a coffee...Dave and his coffee on the go.

Gim looking confident and signaling victory to Shelley.

Some members patiently queuing for paying for the Golden Hole and Eagles Nest, sorry, but the guest blogger didn’t get any info on the jackpot value.

The usual crowd took off and most of us enjoyed hitting the balls, except Gerry who not only tried manifesting his reputation as the new "SOS fashion icon", but showing impressive "2-orange-ball-juggling-skills".

That was a baaaad drive, but Birgit managed to chip the ball out.

.... while a golfer in the same group lost control over his equipment. Oups.

Back to the clubhouse Gary welcomed us with the disturbing news that the digger trophy went missing, but more of that later …..

Here the SOS crowd  relaxing and discussing......

...... how to work on the perfect swing. Some of us are close, others are working hard on it.

COMPETITION REPORT:

Let’s first see how the competition went. No surprises here, we saw the usual good performers on the front seats.

Winner of the day was Greg, being gratulated by the captain. Who can find the mistake?

...and here is Greg with a happy smile

Glen P as the runner-up, blogger confirms the gift card has not been glued to his forehead.

Steph once again saved the honour of the golfing ladies by securing the 3rd place, she's not looking too enthusiastic though. 😁

Back to the mystery of the missing digger trophy:

Thorough search of the premises didn’t reveal the whereabouts of the digger trophy….

….. luckily it was found back after most of the members left and ...

.... is now being fiercely guarded by "Muffy".
