CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP, FINAL ROUND

The first warm(ish) day of the year, and the round finished in plenty of time to catch up with the AFL grand final.

Jerry gives it a good whack

A stroke round on the Old Course. No place for the faint-hearted, and the last round of the Club Championship competition.

Peter runs through a few swing thoughts during the back swing

This is really serious golf, or at least as serious as it ever gets at SOS.

Yep, we're pretty serious

And it looks like you either had a good round, or a bad round.

The white one, or the blue one. I don't care.

A big hole in the middle of the field, where you usually sit with an OK round that wasn't anything too spectacular. No, it was either hero or zero today.

And before you get  carried away and rush down to the range, remember:

Perhaps just keep it simple:

Last week, the boys went fishing. Guess what they caught.

That's right. Plenty of fish.

So, how did we all go today?

Congratulations, Don. Five strokes clear at the top of the table. And in the absence of a photo of the winner, here's the runner-up.

Didn't feel like a great game, but the score was OK.

And another strange outcome. To win one of the novelties today your name had to be Glen.

No, I don't know how that works, either.

Bit grand for SOS? It's just a raffle and the novelties.

And talking of the raffle:

Don't tell Birgit, she'll take it out of my allowance.

Yes, we missed Birgit today, who has a sore foot, but just for her:

A plethora of birthdays. Boris and Frances both celebrated their not very manyth.

Frances completed her first round with us after a longish lay-off, courtesy of the hospital industry, and we were pleased to see Shelley back counting the fines, hoping to be back golfing around Christmas time.

So who put that 50 Eurocents in? Just because you had to cancel your trip to France
you can't unload all your currency here.

Our hard-working committee put their heads together after the game, to finesse the arrangements for the Annual Dinner.

The committee meeting

Put it in your diaries, November 21 - that's just a month away.

Didn't get a birdie, but I got a very nice fish..

And a big thanks to those players who sent in photographs from the day's events. Let's make this a thing - email them into the blogger so that we can all enjoy them.

Malcolm reunited with his 5-iron, that spent
a couple of happy weeks in my bag.

Thought for the week:

Yeah, but a few, not dozens...

If you recognise this man, please do not phone Crimestoppers.
He works here.

You will have noticed that the chook raffle was chook-free this week. So,for those of you pining for chooks:

LADIES DAY

Ladies Day

I seem to remember this was invented to give the girls a chance to win once in a while.

As if they needed it! If recent form is anything to go by, I think we'll need a Gentleman's Day, to give the blokes a chance.

Not a large field, but a competitive one.

And a bright blue, but breezy day.

Gary was rear-ended by Glen's remote control buggy on the first hole, resulting in what was reported over the phone as "severe whiplash". Or perhaps that's what he dished out to Glen - it was a bad line, couldn't quite make it out.

The Mug's Cup was virtually awarded  - "virtually" in that Max had left it at home, so the official NAGA ceremony will have to take place at another time.

Not the Mug's Cup - more the Turkey Trophy

Good to see Shelley and Malcolm at the "afters". I was told that Shelley was looking much improved, but I don't think that was quite what was meant.

Apparently she's looking at being back on the course after Christmas.

And we gather that Stephanie responded to the instruction to make the novelties more accessible to the ladies, by writing "Ladies Only" on the markers. Seemed to do the trick, Steph.

The Golden Hole on the Tuart jackpotted once again, leaving a good $200 in the pot, so expect a larger than usual field next time we're on the Tuart.

Paul and Kerry enjoying the Old Dart, and have been able to get go for short walks around the neighbourhood, and along the banks of the famous River Arun.

Where I fished as a nipper - ah, nostalgia..
Good to see the weather hasn't changed much.

They're missing golf, but have been sizing up the local course and have managed to secure a couple of sets of clubs. Missing us too, and would love to hear from you and see some pictures.

They've nearly completed their quarantine requirements in Clymping, and are looking forward to getting out and about, hitting the night spots and partying till the early hours. Oh, just a minute. Out of quarantine and into lockdown and curfew. Ah well, Boris will have it all sorted soon.

Missing you all

Not content with winning the day (albeit on countback), Steph also took out the raffle, and the NTP on the 18th.

Must be my day

We've searched the Constitution, but apparently the founding fathers forgot to put in a provision preventing a clean sweep like this. The committee will be drafting an appropriate motion at the next AGM.

Runner-up and third...on countback!

A couple of birthdays recently. Earle celebrated his seventieth with a bit of a shindig, Bernie the twelfth (date, not age), and Frances and Glen coming up soon.

Next week, the final round of the Club Championship on the Old Course. Expect a big field!
