STABLEFORD

Now with the festivities firmly behind us, we welcomed Paul back from the Old Dart, and had a shout out for Kerry who's returned with something of a lergy. Birthday wishes to her in absentia.

Richard tries out the latest thing

A bit breezy at the start, and a bit warm at the end, as the sea breeze decided it wasn't interested today.

Some decent scores, and an exceptional one. More of that later.

Before the game, we gathered round and wished Jimmy well as he heads off to Myanmar,

where he'll be one of only two PGA professionals in the whole country.

The new shirts are currently being finalised, and those of us who were there today were able to determine our sizes with the samples that were available. If you haven't had a chance to do so, the shirts will be there again next week.

Don't assume you know your size - a couple of us have been surprised. There are different sizes, and tailorings, for girls and boys, and all sizes are available in long and short sleeved versions.

And a big thank you to the Lot Six Zero cafe group who have generously sponsored the shirts, to keep the price down to $28 for short sleeved, and $33 for long. They're at Innaloo, Yokine, Subiaco and Aveley. If you haven't visited them yet, give them a try - the food is excellent.

The Par 3 competition is at Claremont Golf Course on Thursday, Jan 30th from 5:30 pm, with a meal afterwards. The price is $30 for golf and meal, both for members and guests.

Quite a round!!

Next week, it's Par on the Old Course.

No doubt there were a few moments today when you considered yourself unlucky. Here's some golfers who you can share it with.

And if you're one of those who enjoys watching golf coaching on the internet, check out this guy's useful hints. He takes a while to get to the point, but worth watching for those of us who have difficulty getting that swing going properly.

NEW YEARS CUP

A Happy New Year to all our members:

New Year's Cup - that's a stroke competition on the Tuart course.

Won by Keith the last two years. Could someone wrench it from him this year?

We all recognise that stroke is a tough competition for some of us higher handicappers. There's always that hole where you'd like to just pick up the ball and walk on to the next tee.

Notice Frances got her name on all the novelties this week. Unfortunately, didn't manage to secure a ball on any of them (but picked up one in the raffle, to compensate).

We had the best raffle ever, with all the numbers sold.

And a whip round for Jimmy, who's leaving next week for a position as a golf pro in Myanmar. Jimmy has been a good friend to SOS, and we wish him well.

Final votes for the new SOS shirt have been counted, and in spite of a last minute flood of votes for #2, the resounding winner, by a margin of more than 2 to 1, was choice #1.

Gary and I will be visiting the factory this week, and will let everyone know the schedule from here on in.

I thought those new SOS shirts were going to be ready by now

We'll get them ready as soon as poss.

Bernie found a beer brewed specially for her

Must have known I was coming

Your subscriptions for 2020 are now due, $130 to the SOS account or to Shelley in cash.

A date for your diaries, Thursday January 30th we'll be having the Par 3 competition at the Lake Claremont course, teeing off from 5:30 pm. The cost will be $30 for the game, a meal and drinks. We'll get details of the meal choices shortly.

It was a very pleasant evening when we played last year, with about 25 SOS members taking part. Do feel free to bring a guest as well.

Vickie trundled off with Keith's clubs on the sixth - a big fine ensued

This week, Keith certainly had a good attempt at retaining the Cup for a third year, just being pipped by Stephanie.

I'll get Barry to polish it

If you've been losing your rhythm recently, might be worth taking some lessons from this bloke:

Next week, Stableford on the Old Course. See you there.
