Spring Cup Rnd 1

Sponsored by the inimitable FlyBoy Malcolm.

So it was the return of the Gardner Clan from their first ever cruise.

And what an adventure it was,,,,,,,, all was good until the ship turned into a mobile virus making everybody sick.

Even my alcohol system didn't prevent my normal hardy constitution from succumbing to the evils of The Dreaded Lurgie!!!!

And to make it even worse our first game back was in the FKN RAIN!!!!!!!
Arrrggggghhhhhh just go away and bring on the sun.

PLEASE no more!!!!!

Allied to the rain was the wind which made for a beautiful conditions for quality speedy play,,,,, NOT!

And for one of the first times i had to pay my excessive swearing fine before i had even teed off!!!!!

On the plus side there was the Welcome Guest for Gavin, a big hitting mucker of Ciaran Sticky mcGlue,,,,,,,,,, word was that he nearly drove the 17th with a 4 iron!
I look forward to seeing that live sometime soon dude!!!!!

So what else happened apart from the rain and wind.

The Results

Grumpy Snail

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, a very frustrated group of golfers yomped off the course after a round that took some of us FIVE & A HALF HOURS!!!!!!!
Arrrrrrgghhhhhh!

For the love of The Grumpy Snail,,,,,can we please keep pace with the group ahead!
And if you do fall behind,,, as many of us do after looking for golfballs etc,,,,, please try your utmost to catch up.

Despite the slowness there clearly was some quality golf that was played, as you can see by the scores:-

And the winner is Greg Bennett!!!!

Well done Greg for a marvellous round in trying conditions. You were clearly able to keep the ball below the wind.

Annual Awards Dinner

Please put the 12th November in your diary for the Annual Awards Dinner.

Dust off your tux, get your party heads on, and prepare for the infamous Cross-Toasting session plus other festivities.

Pretty Boy Brett will forward further details, menus etc nearer the time so get ready and MARK THE DATE!
You have been warned,,,,,,,,,,,

Fines of the Week
First game back for a while and there were a few notable 'performances' worthy of mention in this section.
So in no particular order, as merit has to go to the first one for being one of the best:-

Vickie-- In order to protect the innocent, and the reputation of certain members...... the following is from Anonymous of Wembley.
Allegedly,,, The Captain's Wife had a bit of a dummy-spit after her game and ripped up her scorecard before getting into the bar.
Is this true? Or pure defamatory? We'll find out on saturday hehehhehhehee

Stan-- For identifying & examining Stiff's schoolgirl error of wearing white trousers on a wet, rainy day!

Stiff-- for losing control of her cart in the wind and catching it just before it sunk into the lake.

Paul-- For being a general grumpy old b'stard before the start of the game and having to pay up for Excessive Swearing even before a ball had been hit!

Don-- When Sticky asked for a match to light his cigarette,,,, being a smart ass and saying:-
"I don't have a match but i've got a Samsung!"
Quality!!!!!!

Fran-- Sorry to fine you Fran but for a random injury,,,, causing a withdrawal from the game.
Damn those sprinkler heads.
We all hope you get well soon Fran.

The TV in the Bar-- for being generally angry and striking two of the SOS members on the head, and acting in a most aggressive fashion!
hehehehe

Random Pics

Post match discussions about the golf, and angry TV's.

Sheltering from the elements

It took nearly 6hrs to get to the Fun Palace!!!

Wahhhaaaayyyy we made it to the pub!

Club Championship, Round 7

Going to take more than a few drops of rain to dampen our spirits
Round 7, no less.

I feel a good round coming on
Demountables up and gone
It seems some have already fallen by the wayside, but as we know:

"Many are called, but few are chosen."

Well, the plucky few lined up, not having been intimidated by the Bureau of Meteorology's dire warnings of

"heavy showers, high chance of thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon"

which translates as "don't even think of playing golf today"

but we did. And it wasn't really that bad. A few wet holes, one really heavy blustery shower for which we all cowered under our umbrellas and I pretended it wasn't my turn to play.

And it meant we could tee off nice and early, as no-one else had turned up to play before us, and we pretty much had the course to ourselves, and plenty of room in the car park.
Rain or shine, I'm prepared

As they say. "It's an ill wind that blows nobody good".
I knew I should have hit a provisional..

Birthdays to Earle and Bernie.

Yep, I'm the birthday boy..
...and just look at my new swing.
Stop Press: Annual dinner will be on November 12th, not as previously advertised two weeks later. Reason is the venue will not be available later.

Our guest, Greg, turned in a very creditable 65. Very tidy round, Greg.

Fantastic round, Colin. Congratulations.

Our very own "Gang of Four"
Best chip of the day
Stan attempts to buy all the raffle numbers
The competition counts your best five results, so if you've played all seven rounds, you can discard your two poorest scores. The winner will be announced at the Annual Dinner.

Many thanks to Ian for his generous sponsorship of today's event.

Don't tell Fran I won the raffle

Country Cup

Yanchep, Sun City Country Club

Wow... what a spectacular course, with great elevated tees, and huge chasms to drive over, and the gorge of death to lose your ball in .

Plenty of these posing for a snap
And brrr...what a cold, biting wind first thing in the morning, and the drizzle whipping across the first tee, didn't it feel just like playing at St Andrews, and whoops... what fast, glassy greens that you rolled off just as easily as you rolled on.
Feels just like playing golf back home

And didn't we enjoy playing off those blue tees, which were so far back that a slut really wasn't anything to be ashamed of, and those par 4's where, after a decent drive, you were still 220 metres from the pin.
Over the lake? Shouldn't be a problem...

And with no course map, or any interpretative signs at the tee box, meaning that half the time we were hitting blind off the tee, with no idea whether it was a dog-leg left, right, or straight on, and no way of knowing what was on the other side of the green if we overhit.

And in case anyone thinks I'm exaggerating, here's what the course says about itself on the web site:

"A major highlight of any round at Sun City has always been the long sweeping breaks on greens which seem to keep their line secret until just after impact of putter on ball.

Another unique fascination of the course is the length of many of its holes, demanding good use of every club in the bag, including the longest irons. This fascination is made even more acute off the tee, where the many dogleg fairways (12 out of 14) demand a perfect line into the outside of the corner."
Tui climbs the tree to retrieve Peter's ball

The time Thomas managed to hit his tee further than the ball
I couldn't agree more. Which all makes it a little hard to understand why the course rating is the same as Wembley, but there you go.

It was still a great round of golf, and a superb choice of venue for the country cup. Well done, Gary, for all your hard work in making it happen.

And now, for the results.

Can't all be winners, Vickie
Gosh, I seem to have won again...
So, congratulations to Shelley. (And isn't there a bit of a female tradition for winning the Country Cup?)

Shelley had bought the prize for today's game, she had picked out a very nice salad bowl - I'm sure it will look great on your sideboard.

Well done. Time we changed that statue on the top for one with a skirt?
