Match Play Round 2

And here we go into the Match Play 2nd Round, with everything to play for, and Gary overseeing the proceedings as 'referee' thereby adding another string to his bow hehehe,,,

Skills were honed through the week, psychology of the opposition studied, and sledges once again put into action.

The sheer action and excitement of the competition brought the people out in hoards, and we had the biggest field of players in a long while (31 in fact!),,,,, unfortunately so did other societies as we waited,,,, waited,,,, waited,,,, and waited to tee off.

At least that meant we had plenty of time to get inside our opponents heads, or in fact with the case of myself and Gordon, drink to each others good luck!

Team meetings were had, discussions about the Country Cup were mentioned and general randomness was spoken.
We even had our own resident Michael Fish*  in Peter Baird,,,,

*an infamous English Weatherman notorious for saying there wasn't going to be a storm prior to the worst ever storm hitting the UK in 1987 and causing millions of pounds of damages!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqs1YXfdtGE

Who assured us all that even the skys above looked as grey as Greyer McGrey From Greyland,,, it wasn't going to rain until we had all finished....

If only he, like Michael Fish, was correct!
Mr Baird you are indeed sacked as The Trustworthy Weatherman

MatchPlay round 1

Welcome to the much awaited First Round of the MatchPlay for 2015, and didn't the golfing gods bring the weather for the day,,, that was until the end of the day but more about that later.

And it all began with El Capitano reading the riot act, and trying to explain the rules of MatchPlay.

And Kerry putting the training drills into action her second lesson with Patches,,, plus I believe there will be some extra-curricular golf with Peter on a Tuesday arvo,,,eh? eh? anything i need to know about here??????

Is that a cheeky grin I see on your face Peter???

For some of us we tried to get in early with a few sledges, but as I found out there is no point when you are playing Lynne who very replied to ALL my texts (there were a few) throughout the week with her usual succinct aplomb!

In other words Lynne gave back more than she received even stating that her Penants Game the day before was an annihilation 6&5 to Lynne.
Oh, it didn't bode well for the standard mix of lack of sleep and hangover for Mr G (well there was some cricket to be watched on the TV),,,,

To make matters worse, I was even heckled & sledged by Lynne's fella, Bob, on Saturday night!
Is there no escape from the ignominy of defeat!!!!!

It wasn't just me who suffered from the backlash of the MatchPlay, but i believe there were a couple of other little 'disagreements',,,
such as Gary & Colin

and Phil McKeague refusing to play with Herman ze German*

*(that's a blatant fabrication and a serious abuse of dramatic license as Phil was 'called up' to play in an earlier group!)

And the general throttling of the winner between Graeme & Gordon,,,

There must be a BIG WELCOME BACK to the shy and retiring Charmaine & Roland, but it was noted how quiet they were!

At the end of the game we all settled down for a cheeky brew, and the marvellous Toastie Platter,,,,,,

but for some it all got a little bit chilly, so let's hope for next week The Management manage to buy in a few of these lovely things to keep us warm whilst we imbibe.
Plus of course a hip flask with some winter warmers!
You know what i mean Gordon,,,,,

WA Week Comp

Very kindly sponsored by Ron Conway.

The forecast said showers and yes there were a couple of light ones but thankfully it all came good for the Sausage Sizzle down at Perry Lakes!

There was much banter before the round about how good we were all going to play, and a few 'cheeky bets' were placed and sledges started,,,,

Meeting of the Brains Trust

Just wait til next week

even Kerry was talking her game up- and that's after her first game with the Pro Patches.

I must admit that it was the best I've seen Kerry hit a ball for a while so bring it on babes!!!!!

For some reason, and it wasn't planned but there were a few members who chose that red or pink was the colour for the day,,,,

Nice work guys,,,,,

Quote of the week
You'll be pleased to hear that this week we have joint winners with the following:-

(1)
Let me paint the scene,,,,,
As I played the tee shot from the 15th hole, Earle was going towards the 14th green to pick up something he had dropped, I 'skinnied' the ball, holding the pose beautifully with it just making the front edge of the green, assuming I had got away with it making out it was a great shot,,,, as we walked off the tee Earle sauntered past me and declared:

"What a great Sister-in Law!"
"What?" i replied
"It's up there, but it shouldn't have been!"

heheheheheheh PRICELESS

(2)
After leaving several putts short Fran said something that sounded a bit sarcastic under her breath,,,, the rest of the four-ball (Earle, Kerry, myself) all mentioned the usual vulgarities such as 'you dropped your pink handbag again', 'where's you lipstick?' etc etc but she came out with the absolute classic that will forever stick in my memory :-

Well that was a real pussy putt wasn't it!
That was the last thing i expected Fran to say.
Brilliant!

Is it just me or does Lane resemble Graeme McDowell?

Thanks again to Brett for providing the booze and new esky, pretty well catered methinks, and for all those that who gave the ultimate sacrifice and brought along a salad.

Plus where would we be without the chef!
Thanks coach, it's appreciated,,,,

AHH SWEET

And of course there was the Birfday Pair, enjoying a beautiful bit of cake.

The Raffle
Well words cannot describe the raffle, or at least do it justice,,, rather you just had to be there,,,,

Consequently I personally reckon that after that display Vickie should be the new Speaker of the House for the raffle!!!
It was brilliant!

The real fun begins with the first round of the MatchPlay
We're going to have some fun Lynne,,, good luck

Club Championship Rnd3

Sponsored by SOS,,,

Well it was a Big Welcome Back to the Kalgoorlie 4 and their unsuccessful 'recruitment trip' to the Goldfields,,, we came back without any trophies and any extra players!
However we enjoyed the camaraderie, the red dirt and the local views,,,,, it was just a shame that Phil 'Tiger' McLeod wasn't able to make the cut or the journey,,,

There was soon to be a big surprise as one of our newest members, Phill McKeague, had a Mad Moment on the first tee and looked ready to propose to The Captain!
So soon we all thought!

Still after declining such a fine offer, a full cast set about 'tearing up' the Old Course,,,, or NOT!

And low and behold this is apparently what a fairway looks like!

And here's proof that i actually hit one,,,,

So how did we actually do on sure a fine, clear warm near-winters day????
