Memorial and Master Cups, Old Course, 16 November 2013

Old Course, Wembley Golf Complex, 16 November 2013.

"Two cups are better than one"

Memorial and Master Cup
Prize sponsor: Earle (correct?)

Not one but two trophies today out for grabs: the Memorial Cup and Masters Cup.
What a hot day was today, by the end of hole 4 I had gone through my drinks reserve, I guess this is an appetizer for Summer that is just around the corner.
Slow game as well...it wasn't me though!...I was in the last group. Which actually had a bit of a downside: the group of 3 behind us was obviously having great time drinking beer, every time we met at the tee of a hole, they were laughing and joking...LOUDLY...grrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Anyway, it was a spectacular day score-wise

Guess who is this lad

"When everything happens all at once"

President Cup
Prize sponsor: Phil

President Cup today.
Originally planned to be a "Strings" game, then given the amount and the type of questions that were raised during the week, it was decided to revert to a "simple" Stableford. I hope this is no reflection of our extremely high IQ.

The last 2 games were a little too normal, nothing unusual, but this week it's definitely another story. Why? Well, in just 1 game we had Lynne scoring another Hole in One (#9), Glen defeating the Jackpot hole -again- (#12) and a gross score of 75. Ok, it's a par 71, but 75 is still a damn good score, isn't it?

I also heard that in this week someone had a considerable win on a bet on the Melbourne Cup.

Melbourne Cup Field 2011

So, what an eventful week it's been!

Last but not least, Steffy joined us back again, after quite a number of weeks away. Although probably we won't find this on the papers :)

Divorced Pairs, Old Course, 2 November 2013

Old Course, Wembley Golf Complex, 2 November 2013.

Divorced Pairs
Prize sponsor: Kerry

Another Saturday with good weather, although a bit windy. Keeping the ball flight low would make a big difference in some holes. I've never played Divorced Pairs before, interesting format, sometimes it looks a little bit like a lottery, but good fun anyway.
Dave was playing for 2 teams! Double chances of winning, but also double chances of making your partner grumpy!

No eagles, no hole-on-1's, Gary wins again,  just another ordinary day of golf.

Sorry for the spoiler.

Next week:
Captains Choice: Divorced Pairs. What the heck is that? here's the captain himself explaining.
Captain's Choice on 2 November
Divorced Pairs is the choice and is a stableford game played in pairs.  The stableford score for the relevant hole for each person in the pair is multiplied to give the result for the hole, eg player 1 has 0 and player 2 has 3 gives a result of 0 (3x0=0); player 1 has 3 and player 2 has 4 gives a result of 12 (3x4=12).  A counselling service will be available after the game for those pairs who have irreconcilable differences or come to blows during the game!!
As each player will be keeping its stableford score, the score will be registered with Golflink after the game.

(also known as "the day that eagles flew")

SOS Cup Round 1
Prize sponsor:Mal

Round 1 of the SOS Cup today.

Weather forecasts nailed it once again: non-stop rain the whole day, as opposed to "occurring showers". I'll put my hand up next time that there is a position open as director of the BoM. Not for myself, rather for my dog.

But the sun was definitely shining on some of our friends: ... Glen, how was your game today???

In case you did not get it, Dr Glen scored a spectacular EAGLE on the #12, which is also our Jackpot hole. Want to hear it straight from the horse's mouth? there you go:

Don't mean to be disrespectful, but from memory, out of the last 3 eagles, 2 were scored with a mis-hit. So here is a motivational thought for you: when you mess your shot, don't despair: you have more chances of scoring an eagle!

Superb stuff, Glen, ... no matter how you got it :)))
And thanks for the drinks!

Our captain Earle also offered 2 platters of "humble" meat pies (to make up for last week's scores business....) Thanks for that to you too.
