STABLEFORD

Stableford on the Tuart.

Playing with my favourite partners!

A delightful 29 degrees, with a gentle breeze and fluffy white clouds.

Gary practising with the Puttermatic

What could possibly go wrong?

Dave well and truly plugged on the 7th

Quite a bit, according to the results, but we’ll come to that later.

Gerry searching high and low

We set off with hope in our hearts and with the belief that perhaps today would be the day.

Dave Millar in trouble on the 10th

The day when the pars would proliferate like umbrellas on a rainy day.

While the birdies would  accumulate like eggs at Easter.

Nearest the bunker, Gary?

Unfortunately, for most of us, that wasn’t the case.

There were the usual runs of bits of bovver,

Helping Coops find his ball

And a couple of sartorial excesses.

A big field, augmented by the Williams from Wales

And new members Alex and David.

Dave and Karl both enjoying a bit of bunker fun on the 7th

Mark Wilson claimed a twisted back, extracting Isobel from the car seat. However, Trish and he are doing their bit to ensure the continued future of SOS - a second sprog is on the way, this time of male persuasion, and he will be investing in sets of junior clubs soonest.

Roland going full yellow - what's going on here?

There were anniversaires - Kerry on March 30, Colin on April 3 and Paul Boquest on April 4. If you didn’t get them cards, it’s too late now. Accept our belated congratulations.

Ah, so that's it. Roland's masquerading as a pollinator.

I always wanted to bee somebody!

Some serious pollinating to be done here

Paul Gardner apparently managed just two hours sleep on Friday night. If ever there was a reasonable excuse for a poor score that would seem to be it. However, note the scores below.

All looking for Mark Smith's ball

The annual SOS hosting of the WABGA (Blind Golfers Association) will be on May 10th, and will be accompanied by a sausage sizzle. More details will follow.

It was here all the time

So, the novelties.

The Golden Hole on the 3rd was unclaimed (although many came close)

Nearest to the pin in 2 on the 7th went to Goochy. (The drive was to the edge of the green, and the putt wasn’t very far from an eagle - a tap in birdie)

And he parred it from here

Men's longest drive on the 9th, Paul Boquest hit a monster drive off the tee, Paul Gardner got even further, but Mark Wilson had the last laugh here.

Gardy sneaks one past Paul

Nearest in 3 on the 14th had Paul Boquest with a magnificent second shot to within a couple of feet of the pin, and no-one got closer.

Dave in more trouble on the 16th

The women’s longest drive on the 17th had the second group all failing to stay on the fairway, leaving Lynley to pick up this one without any trouble.

Lynley gets the longest

Nearest to the pin on the 18th always attracts a number of contenders. Paul B was again up on the right level just a couple of fee from the pin - looked pretty competitive until Don got closer, and then Mark Wilson dropped one close enough for a pretty simple birdie.

So, how did the birdies pan out?

Paul B on the 3rd and 18th

Frances on the 3rd

Goochy on the 7th

Gardy with 4! - The 7th, 9th, 11th and 15th.

Coops on the 2nd and 6th

Lynley on the 18th

Mark W on the 5th, 7th and 18th

Don on the 18th, and

Roland on the 7th.

Well done, those golfers.

Coops was belatedly awarded the Perry Lakes Cup, for winning last week.

Winners are grinners

And the results today:

As Andrea put it - a race to the bottom, with a number of contenders.

Couldn't find James

Paul actually managing to par the front 9 - a fantastic round on just two hours sleep! six points clear of the rest of the field.

Thanks to all our photographers this week - a great crop of pictures from Peter,

 Gerry, Kerry, Karl and Gardy.

Next week is Ladies Day - expect something unusual and please wear pink.

AGM STABLEFORD ROUND

Yesterdays round heralded the end of our 2024/2025 season and coincided with the clubs AGM. More on this in the Info Desk section following.

Despite a scorching 36 degrees forecast a record 30 players signed up for the days play . As things turned out the maximum probably exceeded that forecast and this took it toll on the field apart from our podium placers.

Prior to play I asked all players photographed to put on their best AGM faces and these are the results

The 3 Paul's with Paul G & B seizing the opportunity to display their newly shaven noggin's (Paul C inserted to provide contrast)

Not sure what what Coops is planning to do with his coffee!

Outstanding AGM faces here by Birgit & Andrea

Another outstanding effort here by Hilly & Garry

Pathetic effort here with the AGM face from Karl & our newest member Dave Millar

Too much smiling in this group

The Shaven Noggin's pointing to something that has Coops baffled. Unbelievably Coops was without his toasted cheese and bacon sandwich because the later tee time inspired his wife (Coops words) to prepare a proper breakfast for him. Without giving too much away his performance on the day, following the breakfast, may become a permanent part of his pre game routine. Spare a thought for Coops wife though.

"Spots of Bovver"

Our newest member Dave and Lynley featured prominently this week.

The resting place of Dave's drive on the 10th.
Two miracles followed, firstly Dave managed a smile for this photo and secondly, after advancing is second shot a meagre 2 metres he hit his third within a metre of the hole and walked off with a par.

Lynley's diabolical dilemma on the 6th?

"The Results"

The Winners & Losers"

In first place with a hearty breakfast in his belly Coops who had a day out to be remembered with a sensational 77 off the stick for 40 points including an "eagle" on the 4th, arguably the hardest hole on The Tuart, and a birdie on the 14th. What a show off!.
In second place with a great round of 37 points was our newest member, Dave Millar
In third place with a solid 35 points (and impressive 79 off the stick) was Garry.

Sadly for Anthony it wasn't the day he envisaged and he took home the lollies.

Golf can be like that and the graph below sums it up pretty well

"The Novelties"

Golden Hole # 3 - Club (Huge jackpot on offer next week)
Nearest the pin in 2 on # 7 - Andrea followed by Paul B
Men's longest drive # 9 - Gardy
Nearest the pin in 3 # 14 - Shelly followed by Andrea followed by Earle
Ladies longest drive - Shelly followed by Andrea followed by Lynley
Nearest the pin in 1 #18 - Paul by followed by Frances

Hopefully enough drama in there for Puggy

"Eagles"

Coops on #4 and he's now talking appearance money!!

"Birdies"

Another plethora of birdies

Coops on #14
Paul B on #7 and #10
Jo-Ann on #12
Frances on # 18
James on # 7
Hilly on # 7
Karl on #  15 and #18
Bernie on # 6
Gardy on # 9

"THE INFO DESK"

THE AGM

We had a big turnout for the AGM which reflects the keen interest in the club by its members and its future.

The meeting was chaired by Derek who did a splendid job ensuring that all had equal opportunity to speak and express their views on various matters up for discussion.

Excellent presentation were provided by our president Gerry and treasurer Peter and assistant treasurer Shelly.

All motions were passed unanimously with a lively discussion around the awarding of novelties to any member that fails to attend the after match presentations. This resulted in Greg volunteering to retain and distribute any novelties not collected on the day.

The election of our new committee went unopposed with no further nominations from the floor and for 2025/2026 is:-

President for a second term - Gerry
Captain for a second term - Andrea
Vice captain for a first term - Karl
Treasurer for an uncountable number of terms - Peter
Booking officer for an uncountable number of terms - Shelly
Social Organiser - Glen K

Assistant social organisers - Frances & Carol

A big shout out to all those that worked behind the scenes to make it a successful AGM - Shelly (subway food), Earle (wine), Frances & Lynley (table, table layout, and nibbles), Cyrena (fruit platter), Andrea (beer). My apologies if I have left anyone off.

A warm thank you to Popey
who sponsored the club for the last 3 years and a call out to Barry who stepped up to the plate with a generous $250 donation to the club .

Lastly but not least it was great to see Lyn at the AGM and we wish her well with a speedy recovery and return to golf. Given Lynley's recent form Lyn's return is eagerly awaited. It will be good t have the dynamic duo reunited again.

ALL ABILITIES GOLF

In keeping with the clubs long history of supporting good causes Garry Burgess has represented our club at many PGA events in Australia in the past and continues to do so. This May, Garry heads off to the UK to pay in the Ping Scottish Open for Disabled Players, and also the G4D Open to be played at Woburn. Most of his costs are funded from various sources, however he still finds himself with a shortfall of $800 and any donation members would like to make to assist Garry would be greatly appreciated. Speak to Garry direct with any assistance you can offer.

TENACIOUS HOUSE

Again in keeping with the clubs long history in supporting community groups and those that need a little assistance Roland has asked if any member can support the organisation, Tenacious House a rehabilitation faculty for men with addictions. Roland volunteers there and has advised that  the men have built a make shift driving range at the property where they are housed and require any old golf balls you may have stashed away. If you have please bring them to golf with you and Roland will be very happy to take them. Personally I have a bag full that I'll drop off next week.

NEXT WEEK

Next week is the Opening Day of our 2025/2026 season and we will be playing The Tuart again with the format to be announced. Tee off time is 9.08 am allowing for Coops wife to make him breakfast again. The long range forecast is 26 Degrees with the possibly of 1 mm of rain

CONCLUSION

I'll leave you with this. The old adage that's there's two sides to every story is as true today as it has ever been. I've always suspected the golfers "may" be smarter than others and recent research seems to have confirmed this. However other research and developments in AI suggests otherwise.
