Stableford on the Tuart

What, no trophies today? Nothing for the mantlepiece?

That's right. Just a straightforward Stableford competition. What do you think this is, the Masters or something?

They've just had a lost ball, wrong fairway, windy, an aggregate score of eighteen strokes
on the par 5, AND THEY'RE STILL SMILING.
That's the SOS spirit!

A beautiful day, nothing to be frightened of. The scary BOM forecast never eventuated, the temperature remained delightfully temperate, and the breeze was nothing more than gentle.

So you're playing in front of Brett today?

We teed off nice and early, and were done by midday, but not too early for a cold beer, or something similar.

Ginger for us.

Missed our regular blogmaster, who is nursing a (sporting) injury - get well soon, sir.

That's Lynne on the left and Lynley on her left.

Those of us who are playing on Thursday, the weather forecast is clement, and there will be maps and playing groups soonest.

With nearest the pin prizes on every hole, there will be plenty to play for.

Beware the photobomber!

So, starting with the novelties, how did we go?

A fair spread of scores, but no really stellar performances, with the winner on 38. (Not to take anything away from the winner, but...)

A win's a win, suckers!

You'll be aware the double strike rule has been removed with the new rules. That's allowed an innovative solutiont to try, next time you're snookered by a tree.

Next week, it's the first week of the Summer Cup on the Tuart - a two week stroke competition.

This huge investment in lotto tickets realised....absolutely nothing.
That can't be fair, can it?

New shirts will be available next week, and we'll aim to take a club photograph on the second week of the Summer Cup, and also celebrate with a sausage sizzle. So be there.

Too true

Australia Day Cup

The annual Australia Day Cup, a Stroke competition on the Old Course, was attended by 22 SOS members and two guests, Darren Hedley and Lynley Hunter.

The weather was pretty much perfect, a moderately hot day, blue skies and a bit of a breeze.

And, of course, Australia Day to celebrate!

tee off on the Old Course

The Fairways

There were no reports of good, bad or unlucky play! Everyone must have had an uneventful round! The blogger appreciates receiving any interesting stories with related photos so it can be shared with members.

President's Report

President Brett Fordham advised that SOS Committee members had met after last week's game in order to address the draft financial report for 2020 and draft 2021 budget and other matters to be presented to members at the Annual General Meeting.

The 2021 Annual General Meeting is scheduled to be held after the game on 20 March 2021.

Brett mentioned that the clubs bank balance was much higher at this juncture than had been forecast last year, largely due to various social events not being held.  As a consequence, the committee decided to increase the value of the raffle prizes. First prize will increase to $20 and more balls will be offered as prizes.  Other considerations will be incorporated in the Financial Report which will be circulated to members in coming weeks.

Any member wishing to nominate for a position on the SOS 2021 committee should do so without delay. Procedures for nomination are set out in the club's constitution and rules, copies of which can be obtained by contacting the Communications Officer, Peter Baird.

Birthdays

The register of members shows there is only one members birthday in each of January, February and March !
As we have already celebrated Brett's milestone a week or so ago, this leaves Alana in mid February and Keith Barrow in mid March to look forward to in the near future.

The Results

Stephanie Jeffares, who won the trophy
last year, passes the Australia Day Cup
 to winner Tony Gooch

In a nail biting finish, Tony Gooch managed to fight off 3 other players also on 39 points to win the Australia Day Cup in a four way count back !

Second place was taken by guest Darren Hedley, followed by Keith Barrow and Tony James !

As Darren was a guest, 2nd and 3rd places respectively went to Keith Barrow and Tony James.

It was a close competition indeed, with the top 18 players all withing 8 points of each other!

Trivia

 Two Diaries.... TOO TRUE!

Husband and Wife recording things in their diaries:

Wife's Diary:
Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner.
I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment on it.
Conversation wasn't flowing, so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed,  but he didn't say much.
I asked him what was wrong; He said,"Nothing".
I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset.
He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it
On the way home, I told him that I loved him.
He smiled slightly, and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior. I don't know why he didn't say,  'I love you, too.'
When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore.  He just sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent.
Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed.  But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep; I cried. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.

Husband's Diary:
A five putt … who the heck five putts? !
