Match Play

Qualifying Round 1

26 May 2018

Quote of the day:

My favourite shots are the practice swing and the conceded putt. The rest can never be mastered.
Lord Robertson

Forecast:  Friday gale winds and rain continuing onto Saturday 1pm

20 golfers turned up on Saturday morning expecting water logged greens and the possibility of an abandoned game.

However, greens were dry enough to putt and, other than an early start because of some "no shows", it was golf as usual!!!

Caption Competition Result
Fran advised that the entries were all good, with the winning entry  from:
Brett Fordham

Dave:  So mate on the last hole that would be a slut, tree to fairway, bunker to bunker, bush to bush and a Garcia for a score of 17?
Ian:  Yep.

Fran awarding Brett the caption prize - Not too sure if it is a ball marker or a hug!

Pic for next weeks’s caption competition below
All entries to Fran Longhurst for judging by midnight next Friday.

Results

Glen Pope d Frances Longhurst 7/5

Glen was at his stylish best!!!

Sniffing a victory in the air ....

Max Patriaca d Jack Tylich 4/3

Nothing like a pie to console oneself after a loss!

Brett Fordham d Lynne Malone 4/3

You can only laugh!!!  Brett plays to a gross 79 and I had to give him a shot!!!

X!#x*!  I would have been gross 77 & $50 richer if I hadn't missed those gross eagles by an inch!!!

John Messenger d Greg Bennett 4/2

I nearly had to play to par to beat Greg!!  I hope he nominates me for the best winner comp!!

Seasoned trooper that he is, Greg knows that he can still get into the finals with 4 points from the next 2 rounds!

Kerry Gardner d Bernie Caffrey 4/2

Guilty smile after eating the SOS lollies (half a chocolate bar) to make up for her loss to Kerry.

Jan Rowling d Gary Burgess 3/2

Vickie Scarff d Earle Scarff 2/1

No amount of consoling Earle will persuade him to nominate Vickie for the best winner comp!

Stephanie Jeffares d Peter Baird 2/1

Stop!!!! I did not talk every time Peter was about to have a shot!!!

It hasn't worked - I thought a drink or too would help me get over the loss!!

Paul Gardner d Ian Holmes 1/0

And, this is how I crunched Ian! [Blogster comment:  Obviously no nomination for best winner here]

Ian, ever the gentleman, just smiles away.

Richard Yeo d Gim Ong 1/0

Signing "I'm a winner" (I think!)

And the lollies (or ½ of the lollies) to:

It is nice to win something, even if it is half eaten!!

Stableford

Stableford on the Tuart.

Birthdays coming up for Greg and Malcolm, get those candles ready.

Beautiful day, but what happened to the golf?

Earle wonders why he can't get the ball in the hole

Thirty five Stableford points was enough to win the prize this week - generously sponsored by John Messenger.

Spending time in the trees? Not us..

And six eclectic points to go with it.

A lot of time seems to have been spent in the trees

Royal Wedding? Just like ours.

And quite a few balls went for a bath, especially on the fifth.

We welcomed back the president's wife, aka Frances Trump.

And our thoughts are with Marina Gray, and Mrs Bennett, wishing them a speedy recovery.

That makes three wins from the last four starts for Peter. If he was a horse, we'd have him tested. But since he's not - well done, Peter, keep playing great golf.

Easy game!

To those of you who wished to see here some mention of the nonsense at Windsor, I'm sorry to disappoint you. Have this cartoon instead, which is almost as funny.

Now, you've all been waiting for the winner of the caption competition - congratulations to Dave Williamson, who came up with this classic:

Rita " Oh Dear, there's one of our members with his fly open!"
Paul " Hee hee, Tell him at the 19th !!"

Now for this week's competition, get your pens out and come up with a caption for this one:

OK, let's see your entries to the caption competition for this one..

Entries this week to Frances at falonghurst1@gmail.com, please, as I'm away. In the meantime Vickie will be blogging.

Next week, it's the first round of the match play competition. Two points for a win, one for a match that finishes all square.

Don't forget the prize for the best winner. That's not the player who wins by the largest margin, but the one who manages to win while ensuring that their partner has still had a enjoyable game of golf.

You'll need to be nominated by the person you beat, and in the event there are no nominations, the prize will jackpot to the next round of match play. (Seriously? No nominations!?)

So, let's make it a match play to remember, for all the right reasons.
