Opening Day & Easter Cup 2016

Sponsored by the delectable (and absent) Kerry.

As luck would have it, the Opening Day and the Easter Cup coincided on the same day so there were two things to look forward to!

Unfortunately the forecast was for nothing but rain, rain and more rain,,,, something that was confirmed by Peter The WeatherMan Baird,,,, apparently is was due to clear up Sunday arvo.

A new tradition was born as El Presidente 'opened the new season' with a game of 'nearest the pink ball'.

Very simply, to tumultuous applause Shelley hit off first using a pink ball.
The Pres hit a great strike to beyond the big tree on the corner,,,,,,, and the closest to her shot was to win a fine bottle of champers.

And the winner,,,,,,,,,,,, Vickie!!!!!

And very appropriate win it was too as Earle & Vickie were, like Derek & Fran last week, celebrating the birth of their first grandchild Logan

Big congrats to Papa Earle & Nanna Vickie,,, enjoy whetting the little's brow.

Plus it wouldn't be Easter without a some Easter Eggs,,,,

And a big shout out to Shelley for bringing along some bunny ears and some choc eggs!

It was even better as these were the only Easter Eggs i was going to receive as my beloved wife had forgotten to leave me any before her sojourn overseas,,,,

Boo hiss i hear you cry!

As for the birthdays, and it's not until next Friday, but it's worth a good mention as we have a true April Fool amongst us,,,,,

Oh yes Ciaran Sticky McGlue will be celebrating his bday on Friday 1st April,,,,

congrats mate, and we do appreciate the advance notice that you may not be present on Saturday due to the faint possibility of too much of the Good Stuff!

I do hope you make it, as personally I have always found that playing with a stinkin hangover (or still slightly pooosed)  improves my game.

Now before we get to the important stuff of the results, at the behest of Vickie we are introducing a new feature that is designed to inform us all of any changes or announcements,,,,,

so onwards and upwards for;-

Captain's Corner

Daily Handicap changes for Old course:
Ciaran down from 25 to 21 – wow! Hehehehe welcome to the winners circle.
Gordon down 1 to 20
Frances down 1 to 23.
With the beginning of the Winter Season last Saturday, players are now eligible for the Consistency Trophy with points being awarded 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for the first 6 places.

The Club Championship events are also held over the Winter Season and the best 5 gross scores out of a possible 7 games are counted for the Club Champion, Ladies Champion, “A” Grade Champion” and “B” Grade Champion with the best 5 net scores out of a possible 7 games are counted for the Handicap Champion.  Note, to be eligible, members must play at least 11 games in the Winter Season, including at least 5 championship days.

BBQ at Perry Lakes following Perry Lakes Cup event on 9 April 2016 – fond memories of Lorenzo, the donor of this Cup – we are waiting for a return visit!
You coming back Lozza, you Italian Stallion????

Beautiful golf peeps,,, top efforts and to make it even much more gooderer, after a 7week drought the Golden Hole went off and was won by a great shot by Gary The Coach Burgess.

Apparently he cleaned up at his Wednesday club too, so it's been a great week for Coach. Well done mate!!!!!

Fines of the Week
Not as many as normal, as it was a pretty sedate week but a couple of goodies to keep that smile on your dial:-
Stan-- not content with beating me for the money, but he felt the need to take it out on my poor defenceless hat,,, heheheheee

Glenn-- overheard whilst discussing Phil The Mack McKeague's lowly 26,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, "I see cream does sink after all"

Ciaran-- for winning his first SOS Cup and for skulling a beer out of it with the boys at home,,,, nice work dude,,,, proud of ya,,,, shame i couldn't upload the real video heheheheee

Gary-- commenting on Brett FairWeather Fordham actually turning up to play golf when it was raining!

Stableford

The beautiful game of stableford sponsored by the lovely Peter Baird.

First things first, and once again a technical failure has meant that i've lost most of my pictures (f**king Iphones!), so there aren't many images of the aftermath,,,,

Plus the fact that i'm pining for Wifey, after dropping Her Ladyship at the airport at stupid o'clock,

and coincide that with the fact that i had to WORK, yes work on a Saturday,,, arggghhhhhh,,,, and therefore missed the golf this will be a pretty lame blog.

It was indeed an absolute pleasure to see that grumpy old man Richard Yeo back at SOS, and despite everything that he has gone through it's great to see it hasn't affected his game too much!!!
Great to have you back pal!

Plus it was good to have Gim back into the fold after her travels and journeys, wherever they were,,,, i'm sure you've told me but since i'm a goldfish i have forgotten the details, ooooopppppssss.

Results
Yeh, not really much to report here as i didn't write the scores down, but what i can say is that for the second week on the trott Paul Wayne King brought home the bacon and took away the prize!

Well done mate,,,, the question is can he make it a 3-peat on Saturday?

The only other matter to note is that apparently there was a Special
Committee Meeting, attended by Captain Earlos on his own, who decreed that this week no lollies were to be provided!

Mmmm would that perchance be because you came last dear boy????
Hehehehee

Novelties
No. 2-- Ian
No. 3-- Lynne
No.13-- Gary (in da hole!)
No.15-- Glenn & Gary (also in da hole!)

Top work people especially with the finishes in the hole,,,, woo hoo,,,, we are getting better!

Golden Hole
But it would appear that the nerves are still trembling over the money hole as once again it didn't go off, with the prize money starting to climb once more

~$74 in the pot

will it 'go off' on Saturday? The tension is almost too much to bare,,,,
:-)

Fines of the Week
Now this is one bit that i did pay a bit of attention to, so prepare yourself for some doozies!
And i shall start with my welcome to the club:-

Frances-- On arriving at the club and whilst talking to Paul Wayne King, Phil Mickelson McKeague and Gordon The Salesman Nielsen we followed about 20m behind Fran to the lift, whereby Frances looked us square in eyes, flipped us 'The Bird' and closed the doors, leaving us standing there dumbstruck,,,, we couldn't believe it!**

** There may have been a bit of 'poetic licence' with the above story, but why should the truth get in the way of a good yarn!

Stan-- having played an ordinary round, blaming his lack of form on the fact that he'd had a haircut the day before

Shelley-- for acting as our resident 'wood chopper' and arborist after deciding NOT to attack the fairways but to hit not one, not two, not three, but FOUR trees on the first hole.
Top effort El Presidente

Earle-- for breaking his umbrella, with a bad case of wind!
Something you ate sir?

Brett-- for scaring the locals on every fairway but the one he was supposed to be on!
Best re-adjust those sights fella.

and finally, but by no means least

Vickie & Steph-- on handing the New Year Cup back to Vickie, it was overheard that Steph had a real Attack of the Blondes saying:-
"Have we played the 2016 New Year's Cup yet?"
"I'm not sure" was the response from Vickie

well done girls, proud of ya, hehehehee

Next Week
Is the Easter Cup which also coincides with the start of the Opening Season where Shelley will mark it with a new tradition,,, to be explained on Saturday

There will a Special Prize on offer!!!

Reminder from Your Captain
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU MARK YOUR CARD PROPERLY, AND SIGN IT WITH BOTH YOURSELF & YOUR MARKER.
If you fail to do this unfortunately you are liable to be DQ'd!!!!!!
And we don't want that do we????

Oirish Stableford

In honour of the upcoming St. Paddys Day celebration we played Oirish Stableford sponsored by our non-Irish 457 Warrior Thomas Reilly.

Bejeesus away an shoite wid ya,,,,,,

Get ready SOS for a long drawn out one this week, as i'm full of blarny and guinness as i try my best to pull this one together,,, without forgetting too many of the highlights from Saturday.

Plus for the next 3 weeks i'll be without my MUSE,,,, Kerry, so i'm making the most of it heheheheheee

Just so you all know i'll be free for meals and drinks, just don't tell Kerry!!!

Before we start, a big Shout Out must go out to Nola, who came 2nd in the Margaret River Open,,,,,,,

though much to the chagrin of Steve, who stated:-

" What's the point of coming 2nd when you only win bloody throws & pillows, when everyone else gets wines & chocs!"

Oh well,,, at least you have the silverware!

As well as sponsoring the round, it would appear from the pic above that Tom is still celebrating the resurrection of his VISA!!!!
Waaahhhaaaay congrats dude, a few of us fully understand the stress that can bring,,, so welcome.

And following on from the welcomes it's great to see our reserved Ze Saffer-Germans back in the fold!

Good to see ya Roland & Char.

Plus a joyful return to PK & Ciaran

So onwards with a brief taste of some of the outfits that were to behold the joys of Wembley.

Kerry looking resplendent, with Oirish Ted on board,,,, apparently he's like the 'monkey on your back for the golfer' but is supposed to offer kind words and support,,,,

I wonder if it worked?????

Lynne looking awesome as ever.

The well-travelled Guinness hat is looking as great as ever.

Bah humbug, says Colin, well supported by many of others whose plans are to support it on the day,,,, with wine, women, dancing and song!!!!
I'll be there fella!

Other pics will follow later team, as i'm getting complaints the Blog is getting too long before we get to the results,,,,,,,

Onwards and upwards

And NO THE GOLDEN HOLE DIDN'T GO OFF,,,,, soooo wahhaaayyyy more money for next time!

Fines of the Week
Here we go for some great snippets from last Saturday's Post-Match festivities:-

Frances & Derek-- for becoming First-Time Grandparents

Don-- For being publicly disowned for his incredibly colourful and descriptive language.

Nola to PK-- remarking about the colour of his shirt
"I see you've dressed for the Oirish Stableford,,, if you were Irish that yellow shirt would be green"

Gary to Gordo-- On describing his 'ordinary' round
"Blimey i was hitting that looser than a King's Cross Hooker"

Derek-- after another ball of our team disappeared into a BlackBoy
"Those bloody BlackBoys are eating our balls like Triffids today"

Gordo-- after hitting one of his drives a bit bush, he finds both of his lost pink balls in the same search. Top spotting!

Ciaran-- after claiming his prize, he was the only one who had an extra $10 squirreled away
"Well dat's de luck of de Oirish"

Paul-- trying to be clever, and pushing his cart to the next tee, only for it to veer off and commit Hari-Kari,,,,
Maybe it was a sign for things to come.

The Raffle
A special mention has to go out to Ze Stangers as they cleaned out the raffle.

The Committee was NOT happy!
Hehehehehee
