Masters Trophy and Memorial Trophy

Hot, hot, hot, but apparently not as hot as last week. So that was good.

Seven groups completed the gruelling course before retiring to the SOS marquee for well-deserved drinky-poos.

The Stangers entertained Malcolm and Tricia, their kiwi mates,

and introduced them to the SOS custom of fining all and sundry for imaginary offences whilst quenching an insatiable thirst. All in a good cause.

The president paid up generously after spilling the raffle numbers on the floor,

and Kerry explained  how she would have won if only she hadn't shot an eight on the final hole.

That's what pressure does to you.

Gary spent the day on standby, waiting for a call to the hospital. Fortunately he wasn't disturbed by any annoying phone calls during his round.

So, first of all, the novelties:

Diggers Trophy

Sponsored by our maaaate Colin Kerr!

A damn hot day saw the SOS embark on the Diggers Trophy, with a full field on the Tuart,,,,
It was complimented by the return of the Terrible Twins, Dave Williamson and a fully recovered Ian Holmes!
Welcome back fellas we've missed you.

Did i mention it was a little bit tepid?

Plus we had a visit from our Brisbane friends with a fleeting visit by Mike & Christine,, sorry i missed ya, but i'm informed you a lovely meal at Shanghai Tea Garden.

Plus did i mention it was a bit warm???

As you can probably tell my distinct lack of detail, and amusing anecdotes, i wasn't playing,
Unfortunately i had to 'cash in' and old Ashes Bet where i was to be treated to a day at the cricket.

I was picked up in the morning by Weary, treated to brekky at his then whisked off to the WACA where we hit the marvellous air conditioning of the Members Bar!

Phew it was hot!

Out of all the days play, we stuck it outside for 30 mins (except for catching up with an old house mate, Alison and friend),,,, before once again retiring to the cold beer and beautiful aircon.

Mmmmmm cold beer!

Results
Apologies guys and gals but i didn't get a full read on the game at hand, except to hear that a great score won!

WELL DONE Mr Peter Baird for your marvellous victory!

Peter's prizes

Unveiling of the new Trophy

Proud sponsor and prouder winner

Has anybody spotted the deliberate mistake?

Last and by no means least was Warrior Williamson
Welcome back indeed.

Lolly Warrior Williamson

I've no real idea what happened imbetween, but i'm sure you're cracking imaginations can help to fill in the blanks!

Golden Hole
At lasst she went off, and what a gracious winner i'm told with Charmaine taking home the bacon, $119 and Roland -tho he did try to steal the money! Hehehehe ze German strikes back!

Nice work Char, and i hope it went towards a nice bottle of fizzy.

I won Roland, not you!

The only downside of successive victories on the Golden Hole is that both pots stand at ZERO!!!!!

Fines of the Week
The curator of the WACA for such a benign pitch.

Thanks to Shelley for her warfare analogies in the reading of the fines,,,

Anybody who drove a Tank (otherwise known as a Golf Cart) should've been fined double for cheating against adversity!

Quotes of the Week
Paul at the cricket-- "blimey it's hot!"

Paul at the cricket-- "my beer's empty Weary?"

Paul at the cricket-- "got im,,,, f- off you're out!"

Paul at the cricket-- "that's such a flat track,,, reckon this'll be a draw"

Paul at the cricket-- "mmmm cold beer!"

I guess you've got the theme of the day,,,, which was then followed by a few more cheeky beverages at the most salubrious of venues that is The Carlton Hotel,,,,,

Annual Dinner
Get yourselves ready for night of fun and festivities at The Wembley, this Saturday 21st November!

Make sure you have your "Cross Toasts" ready, as per previous years the same formula applies:-

"Mrs President, Mrs President I would like to take wine with,,,,,,, (fill in with a phrase that makes others stand and have a sip of their chosen beverage)"

A more full explanation will happen on the night!

Next Week
The return of one of the more prestigious Cup, The Memorial & Masters where previous winners of The MatchPlay or 36 hole comps fight it out!

Good luck people, unfortunately i will miss this again due to that four letter word that is work!
Bugger!

Goodbye Legend, batting has just become a bit easier!

Anybody worked out the deliberate mistake yet???????

See ya all at the Annual Dinner people!!!

And don't forget it's Black & Red Theme

Presidents Trophy

Beautifully sponsored by the 'forever young' Phil McLeod.

Twas indeed a beautiful day for the Presidents Trophy with a game of Stableford on the Old Course, just for a change! Woo hoo

A full squad of 8 groups entered the fray, with a big return to Don, to enjoy the oncoming summer time.

A little bit of practice was going on before the round on both putting greens and the range,,,, Stan Tan was practising his Ninja Drive,,, those with easy access to youtube check this one out,,,,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD_yW9TLDmY

Derek made a come back and chose his team well, as once again he was in front of Brett,,,,, Gary and i were there to protect him from any incoming,,,,

Feel free to spot the difference between the above and below images,,, heheheheheheee

In reality it was the group ahead of us that were the ones in trouble as i managed to hit up twice on them,,, albeit dribbles passed or near ankles,,, and both from pretty miraculous shots,,,
Apologies gents!!!!

anyway onwards with the show,,, and unfortunately we had some more fallers before the end of the round with poor Nola having to retire sick, whisking away the sprightly Steve mid-round!

We all hope you feel better soon Nola, and we see you back in fine fettle asap.

Birthdays
A very happy birthday to the gout sufferer and evidently almost psychic (for his budgetry prowess) Peter Baird.
Many Happy Returns!!

Results

But we were all in agreement that the fines were of the utmost quality!!
Proud of ya mate!

Novelties
NTP 2 Charmaine
NTP 9 Paul
NTP    Frances
NTP17 Gim

so four girls won,,,, well done Team Babes!

Golden Hole
And just to cap it all off the Golden Hole went to a cracking shot by Shelley, a quite miserly $49!!!)
and quite apt really for the President to win the Golden Hole and Malcolm to win the overall match!
Nice work Team Yeo

Malcolm nearly got ya Shelley,,,, so close but alas so far.

Quotes of the Week
Since the fines kinda took over, the level of quotes unfortunately suffered and there was only one of any note,,,, and guess who it was,,,,

yes The Yeo's,,,

Malcolm overheard saying-- "I did have some coins for the fines, but my bloody wife nicked them"

As you can see i was clearly shocked by Mal's revelation!

Fines of the Week
All earnings for the month of November going to Kings Park Honour Avenue Group in remembrance of the Fallen Diggers.

As per usual Earle forgot the Markers and had to chase Shelley (in the second group) down the fairway to hand over the flags,,,,
This prompted a very informative conversation on the benefits of getting a seniors card with valid contributions from Glenn, Derek and Stan

Gordon was allegedly paid by Bazza to aim for Stiff (though this may have been a very vicious rumour overheard or concocted after a few cheeky beverages)

Myself for managing to hit myself with a ball from the rough,,,, though at least it wasn't a YASSI

And you see this hole in the tree? Yes that really tiny one,,,, well that's the one that young Tom tried to get through.

Sed tree shall now be known as Tom's Tree,,,

And then there was Gim for nearly falling asleep on the 9th, and running away to get herself a massive does of caffeine, in order to continue the round,,

Next Week
The game for the 14th November is for the Diggers Cup, sponsored by Colin and SOS and is a game of PAR.
Unfortunately I'll be at the heat of the Test Match at the WACA so will miss the day,,, but at least i'll be in the Members drinking full strength beer! Woo hoo,,,

Plus if anybody is keen to join our lovely visitors from Queensland, Mike & Christine, Gim is arranging a meal in Northbridge where all are welcome!

Advance Warning
The week after, the 21st November and the day of the
ANNUAL DINNER

is the Masters and Memorial Cup, where any member who has won a 36 hole event, or The MatchPlay is eligible.
For this year those combatants are:-

Good luck ladies and gents, as unfortunately i'll have to miss this event too due to a bloody work obligation!
Work is indeed a 4-letter word,,,
