Opening Day

A beautiful Autumn day, with a small but select field.

Scores varied from the not very good to the acceptable, but the president cheered everyone up by ordering chips all round as the scores were read.
The small but select field welcoming the new season

Grateful thanks to Gary for his generous sponsorship.

The club noted with sadness the passing of Kerry's father and Don's son. Our sincere condolences to both of you.

Next week we compete for the Easter Cup, and look forward the following week to a BBQ after the game.
Hmm, this looks interesting..

The novelties were fiercely competed for, with Greg missing out on the golden hole by a whisker.

Stableford on the Old Course

Just been getting Lot Six Zero ready for the SOS Annual Dinner
A beautiful 26 degrees, a little breezy for the back nine but an all round perfect day for golf, reflected in a large contingent of players with very reasonable scores.

I got three birdies today so I'll eat whatever I want, OK?

The day was brought to a conclusion with the SOS AGM, which we'd all been looking forward to. By delaying the raffle until the end of the AGM, Shelley ensured that no-one snuck off before the finish.

Wine & Cheese

Once again a hearty thanks must go out to Vickie & Earle for hosting the marvellous event that is the SOS Wine & Cheese Night.
Another truely succesful night was enjoyed by many!

An event like this wouldn't happen without the contributions of others, so all our thanks go out to Vickie & Earle for also supplying the fantastic wines that were cheerily quoffed.

To Shelley for the beautiful Butter Chicken.

My beautiful wife for the Lasagne & Cheese Boards.

Lyn for the fantastic Cheese-cake.

And Brett for his individual Chocolate Mousse's.

Congrats of course must go to the winner, Sandy, who somehow managed to win the competition.

To quote a line from Sandy over a pre-match conversation:-

' I know nothing about white wine, i only drink red' Sandy
who then goes to score nearly full points on the white, but almost zero on the reds,,,,???

What have you been feeding her Brett????

And now for some random pictures of the night,,,,,

Ladies that lunch?????

Ladies hard at work with the prep.

 I'm loving the scoff!
Is that damn monkey laughing at me? I'll show him,,,,,,

Peter getting stuck into the cheese
Time for relaxation, and cheesy banter amongst friends.
Now that's how wine should be kept. I'm jealous.
Too much wine leads to selfies

Once again, that's it for another year,,,, here's to the next fantastic Social Event with SOS Golf........

What's next i wonder?????

IRISH STABLEFORD

Kindly sponsored by Bruce

Well bejesus wid ya & begorraaah it's toime for da Oirish Golfing Comp dat is OIRISH STABLEFORD,,,, fiddly dee,,,,
and if you understood that, then you've passed the test and the scoring would've been easy for you!

As you may have already guessed, we have a new author for the SOS blog, so you'll have to get used to a much less intelligent form of communication,,, though hopefully just as amusing.

My first act is to wish the Bangladeshi's well in the upcoming Quarter Final match against the Indians later this week,,,, as a humble sacrifice i chose to wear the Bangladeshi Cricket Board Shirt that i have in my wardrobe:-

Ami tomuka valupa a chey

Anyway back point, and the Team Irish Stableford.
A few good men and women chose to wear the Green of Ireland, and for the some the luck was better than others, as Greg shot a HOLE-IN-ONE!!!

The Oirish Leprechaun shone on me for me HOLE-IN-ONE!

Well done Greg from all of us, though it was noted that you left soon after the game,,,

Hopefully you are a registered member of the Golflink Club and have collected your $5k!

The Captain welcomes back Gary.

A big welcome back to Gary from his nuptials over in Vietnam. I have to say the Wedding Album is fantastic and dont you look young!

God bless photoshop,,,, only joking fella!

Let the battle commence,,,, who is your money on eh?

Ladies looking resplendant in Green
The Ladies in Green,,,,, gorgeous as ever girls!

FinesMaster & Birthday boy Travis
The birthday boy Travis after his rather mixed round, though he did win the prize of the Lollies for bringing up the rear, and having the dubious honour of being the Acting FinesMaster.

Stableford

Thanks to Malcolm for his generous sponsorship.

At what point in the game do you start playing for the lollies?

A warmish day, with some outrageous scores. Conditions weren't tricky, but sometimes the ball just wouldn't go in the hole.

Shelley's been studying the shirt questionnaires, she'd appreciate any more input, so she can assess the mood of the membership. (Generally pretty grumpy, Shelley..)

The non-grumpy faction.

Nominations are open for committee members - don't all rush at once. There'll be food at the AGM, so can you let Shelley know if you're planning to make the meeting but won't be playing on the day. If you're playing, she'll assume you'll be attending.

Next week is Irish Stableford - do dress appropriately.

Couldn't go to a more deserving fellow

A great evening at Vickie and Earle's for the Wine and Cheese (and Lasagne, and Butter Chicken, and Salad, and amazing desserts).
The Stableford Three

And the blind tasting from the Wilton Place cellars. Thanks to everyone who contributed so generously.

And the winner of the wine tasting - Brett's wife Sandy, with a remarkable ten points, who managed to pin down those subtle flavours that escaped the rest of us mere mortals. Pictures to follow.
