Winter Cup - Round 2, 27 July 2013

Old Course, Wembley Golf Complex, 27 July 2013.
Winter Cup - Round 2

Sponsor: David Johnston

Welcome to the Wembley Swimming Club.
We swim every Saturday morning at Wembley.
And, yes, we do occasionally play some water golf.

This Saturday we played in the Old Swimming Pool, the Round 2 of the Winter Cup.
I can't believe that Glen scored 79 gross in that weather.

Quote from Derek:
I'm suggesting we institute a decoration for those who played on Saturday, something along the lines of the Distinguished Service Cross, to be worn below the SOS logo on the golf shirt.

Scores.
I can't believe that Glen scored 79 gross in that weather.

Match Play
Gary vs Greg 1up ...after no less than 21 holes!

Play of the day:
Gary: winning 2 competitions in 1 day
... oh yes, and Glen. Can you figure out why?

E-mail from our Captain:

Winter Cup:
1st:
Gary Burgess (combined net score 140) - worthy winnner being 1st in round 1 and equal 3rd (coming 4th in a countback in round 2)
Joint 2nd:  Richard Yeo and Glen Pope (combined net scores 141)
4th:  Greg Bennett:  (combined net score 144)

Individual day competition for Round 2 of Winter Cup:
1st:  Glen Pope - net 71 (on a countback) - (sponsor of prize - David Johnston).  A very good win from Glen with a gross of 79 - the next best gross was 85!
2nd:  Phil McLeod - net 71
3rd:  Earle scarff - net 72 (on a countback)

Further Matchplay results:
Remaining quarterfinal:  Colin Kerr played in individual day competition but won as Lynne was ill and had to forfeit.
First semi final (in that first played):  Gary Burgess defeated Greg Bennett on the 21st hole.  Well done both players for some very consistent and high quality golf over the last few weeks.
Next week:  Shelley Yeo plays Colin Kerr in the second semi final and the winner of that game plays Gary Burgess in the final on 31 August.

Handicap changes:  As players handicaps did not change over the 2 week Winter Cup competition, I have shown the current handicaps for the relevant players over after that 2 week period plus any other changes from before round 1 on the 20th:

Winter Cup - Round 1, 20 July 2013

Tuart Course, Wembley Golf Complex, 20 July 2013.
Winter Cup - Round 1

Sponsor: Toni

Certainly wintery temperatures this morning, I have been wearing a jumper and a jacket for most of the day.
And windy too. The good thing about wind is that when you are about to tee off and there is head wind, on the following hole, played in the opposite direction, you will have tail wind.
Well, I only had head wind. Don't know what the story was, whether the changing wind, the course layout, the melting of the antarctic cap, but I only had head wind! I am going to enquire at a metereologist whether this is scientifically possible!
Scores.
