SOS vs Westerners, Stableford 27 April 2013

Old Course, Wembley Golf Complex, 27 April 2013.
Stroke Play

Prize Sponsor: SOS

Special day today: we SOS are hosting the Vision Impaired Westerners.
Sky looking fine, not a cloud, no wind, but the weather turned to overcast later on in the day.
Tee off at 9:25am, the Stableford match between SOS and the Westerners is on.
My game ended pretty much after the first shot, with a massive slice to the right and long time to find the ball, luckily I did find it. I knew it was not going to be my day…

Hole n.10 was meant to be Nearest to the Pin in 2…but the first group forgot to leave the marker…so it became NTP in 2 at hole n.13… The appropriate fines were applied later on at the club house.

Then at hole n. 16…big surprise: the marker was placed on the green… who will it be? Read on to find out.

After 18 holes, here are the scores.

First of all…

SOS vs Westerners
SOS 140
Westerners 139

SOS wins by the skin of the teeth!

Club Championship - Round 1

Prize Sponsor: Stephanie Jeffares

First of all, welcome to Kerry and Paul, back from a European tour.

Tee off at 10:00am this morning, for the Club Championship 2013.
Overcast sky, a little drizzle, but still we had a big turn up: 27 players contesting for the glorious SOS Club Championship title.
Today’s golf day will be remembered for Glen's yellow outfit... but also for the man’s marker, very nicely placed less than a meter away from the ladies’. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and will propose to have them like that more often! :)

After all said and done, here are the scores.

Next week we SOS will have the greatest pleasure of playing Stableford with the vision-impaired Westerners. Last year we were absolutely smashed, let’s try for something better this year.
At the end of the game there will be platters of food served to all players.

And here are today's photos.

Stroke Ambrose 4, 13 April 2013

Old Course, Wembley Golf Complex, 13 April 2013.
Stroke Ambrose 4

Prize Sponsor: Earle Scarff

The weather forecasts were not so encouraging for today, but luckily enough we got no rain. Tee off at 9:00am, great for those who had a good rest last night (I had not).
Six teams of four lined up this morning, in the quest for victory and glory, … except for the team “Three Blind Mice” which, due a to a defection, were … just in 3.
We also had 2 guests, not competing for today’s game: Ivan Patchett and Brian Farwell.
Ambrose 4 is a game faster than our usual Stableford, my team completed the first 9 holes in 2 hours, and the full 18 holes in 4 hours on the dot. Normally the Stableford takes about 5 hours. Nonetheless the course marshal (aka Bruce) has been chasing and hurrying us as if we were having a pic-nic?
Anyway, for a change it was nice playing the ball always from the fairway (well,…not exactly always…) and having plenty of pars and birdies.

Here are the scores.

Stroke Ambrose 4, Old Course

Lollies of the day go to:
Three Blind Mice:
   Ross
   Lynne
   Dave
with a score of 66.3.
In fairness, this did not come as a surprise, as playing in 3 is a clear disadvantage, so great effort, despite the lollies!

5th Place:
   Earle
   Greg
   Colin
   Ric
with a score of 60.5

4th Place:
   Lorenzo
   Derek
   Tony
   Stephanie
with a score of 60.0

3rd Place:
   Gary
   Vickie
   Allan
   Ian
with a score of 59.375 (how can one score 0.375 strokes, I don’t know, did the ball shatter in pieces???)

2nd Place:
   Glen
   Debbie
   Shelley
   Richard
with a score of 58.875 (…same as above, more shattering of balls this morning)

And the winners of the Ambrose 4 today are:
   Paul
   Malcolm
   Brett
   Peter
with a score of 58.0

Well done!!!
The Winners
Thanks to Earle for sponsoring the prize today.

Novelties:
NTP #2: Dave
Longest Drive hcp 20+ #9: Greg
Longest Drive #11: Colin

Stableford 6 April 2013

Tuart Course, Wembley Golf Complex, 6 April 2013.
Stableford Play

Start time at 9:00am today, everyone looking well rested and relaxed, ready for another great golfing day.

Weather assisting us, as usual in Perth: sun shining and temperature in the mid 20's.

We are playing the Tuart course today. It’s not everyone’s favourite one, but this year we are going to play it more often than in the past, maybe we’ll get more familiar with it and appreciate it a bit more? Time will tell. It is definitely a challenging course, with narrow fairways and massive overhanging tree branches, sometimes I wonder who ever came up with that design? My (least) favourite is hole #16, can someone please explain to me where the first shot is supposed to land???

Enough winging, here are some photos of the glorious day.
