CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4

Club Championship Round 4 and Match Play semis.

Much to the disappointment of members, Club Championship Round 4 didn’t happen today.

No great surprise, look at the BOM.

A bedraggled crew fronted up at Wembley, but to no avail.

Wembley had already decreed that there would be no carts today.

The forecast was less than promising - even worse than last week.

And the prospect of a very soggy round was enough to call it all off.

Those who paid for this week will earn a credit.

If you’re going to play next week, let Shelley know (preferably by message) that you will be using your credit. Otherwise pay in the normal way.

From the following week, Glen will be drawing up the field, as Shelley is heading off to Europe for some summer golf.

If you’ve forgotten what the summer looks like, here are a couple of reminders from years past.

The outstanding quarter final of the Match Play resulted in a 3/2 win for Peter against Gerry, which leaves the semi-finals as:

Keith v Roland, and

Peter v Barry.

These semis, as well as the CC Round 4, will be rescheduled soon, more to come.

In the meantime, if you’re suffering from withdrawal, you can always binge on encouraging YouTube golf videos like this one:

Club Championship Round 4 washout

The forecast said it all !  Saturday would be 30 to 50 mm of rain with 100% certainty !

The 4th round of the Club Championship competition was to be held on the Old Course and 14 stalwart members turned up for the 9.24 am tee off.

With the driving range under repairs for an extended period, members were keen to warm up on the lower putting green however, the following picture tells a story and a harbinger of things to come !

Lower carpark putting green!

Gerry, Andrea, Paul G and Shelley - all smiling
after the game was abandoned before it started.

Fortunately, the Pro Shop refunded those that had hired a cart and it did not take long before everyone set off for somewhere warmer and dryer!

Players that paid for the game on 2 August will receive a credit. Please inform Shelley if you wish to utilise your credit for the game on 9 August.

The first tee on the Old Course was pooled with water!

The 9th green was similarly affected - any ball landing on the green
would likely get washed downhill to the fairway!!

Next Week

There will be 2 competitions held alongside each other on 9 August.

The delayed 4th round of the Club Championship competition will be contested by all players who will register for the game in the normal fashion.

The 4 matchplay semi finalists will complete both a generic card (to record their marchplay results) as well as a registered card to record their Club Championship results.

Rules for the competitions will be circulated with the players list on Thursday.

The competitions will be played on the Old Course and scheduled to commence at 9.56 am.

Golden Holes

There will be 2 Golden Holes next week, with GH #1 topped out at $150 and GH #2 around $60.

Meanwhile

Do not forget that putting accounts for around 40% of your strokes !
