The golf God was obviously playing at Wembley again yesterday because after a week of torrential rain, record minimum temperatures and a tornado tearing a path through City Beach, the sun eventually came out of hiding and shone upon the course. The weather could not have been better apart from perhaps the conditions of the greens that were a little muddy with a thin veneer of grass in patches causing variable speeds and bounce.
THE MAIN EVENT - MATCH PLAY QUARTER FINALS
Glenn & Roland and Barry & Tony striking a combative pose while Stephanie & Keith adopt a very sporting one.
While all this pre match activity was going on Coops was quietly munching on, you guessed it, a toasted bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich in the background.
The match play quarter finals provided some interesting results. Two of the matches were walk away victories and one was a hard fought battle. The match between Barry and Tony resulted in Barry winning 4 & 3. Likewise the match between Roland and Glenn resulted in convincing victory to Roland winning 6 & 5. We all know how unpredictable golf can be from one round to the next and with the added tension of match play results are difficult to predict.
The match between Stephanie and Keith was a very tight contest with Keith eventually winning 2 & 1. Keith was full of praise for Stephanie in his recap of the match and how she fought back from 3 down after 7 holes, to at one point lead, and eventually falling just short with two holes remaining. Justifiably Stephanie felt a little aggrieved by the tee markers, that on most holes were the same for both the men and women. Fortunately this wasn't the case on the designated longest drive hole for men and women, the 8th, where the tee markers were in their usual position and Stephanie took the prize.
THE SUPPORT ACT - STABLEFORD
For the support act the rest of us played a Stableford round and there was a drought of birdies and only two reported spots of bovver. Mick found himself in a tight spot on the par 5 eight hole and eventually walked off the green with a snowman, and Lynley had some bunker trouble on the 7th that ended with a pick up.
Mick on the 4th
Lynley on the 7th
In stark contrast to Lynley, Lynne played her second shot to within inches of the hole on the 7th, narrowly missing her "eagle" but walking off with an easy birdie, being one of only two for the day.
Lynne on the 7th. So close to an eagle but still managing a smile.
THE STABLEFORD RESULTS
THE WINNERS
3rd place on countback from Wayne, Colin on 35 points
2nd place Wayne on 35 points

THE LOLLIES

THE COUNRTY CUP - SUNDAY 28 SEPTEMBER
SECRET HARBOUR GOLF LINKS
One of the clubs premier social events for the year is the The Country Cup. This year it will be at the Secret Harbour Golf Links located less than an hour's drive form the Perth CDB at 271 Secret Harbour Boulevard, Secret Harbour.
This is a challenging links course littered with bunkers and offset by very generous fairways. Given it's difficulty and given that it's meant to be a fun day the men will play off the white markers, but that doesn't mean it's going to be a stroll in the park because it still has a very respectable slope rating of 126, scratch 71 and par 72.
The club has secured 28 spots with the first tee off at 9.36 immediately following the Secret Harbor members, and the final 4 ball teeing off at 10.24. The round includes a shared motorised cart, green fees, and a lunch special that covers all dietary requirements. The price for this package is $95, however as a result of the success of our recent Action Night the club will subsidise the event by $20 per member meaning that members will only pay $75. Should there be any spots available then members are welcome to bring a guest and the cost for them will be $95.
As soon as possible I require notification from those wishing to participate, and this can be done by emailing me at karl.wolzak@westnet.com.au. We had 27 players at last years event so please secure your spot early. We will keep members updated on numbers via The Blog leading up to the event and this will determine if there will be room for members guests to play. I will also be emailing full details of the event to members during the coming week.
Please note that it will assist Shelly greatly with tracking payments if you could hold off making your payment until the week commencing 8 September.
NEXT WEEKS EVENT
Club Championship's Round 4, a stroke event to be played on The Old with tee off commencing at 9.24.
Currently the forecast is a little grim with a maximum of 18 degrees, 25% chance of 25mm of rain, 50% chance of 10mm of rain, and 75% chance of 3mm of rain. Let's hope for the latter, and remember golf is meant to played all year round, it's all part of the challenge.
